Micheal Cane was great in a Muppet Christmas Carol because he treated the Muppets like fellow actors.
Tim Curry was great in Muppet Treasure Island because he acted like a fellow Muppet.
I haven't really seen people with Muppet acting like they're anything other than actual living beings. everyone seems to fully embrace it regardless of their acting chops. they make eye contact, listen and converse with them respectfully, even though they probably see the puppeteers very clearly.
It's a gift of respect.
