It's not that bad. Yeah, it's got some issues, but it's more interesting than most of the typical garbage we get. I'm holding off playing more until the AI fixes are in I think, but it's fun still currently. It's just not your generic shooter. If that's what you want, there's a million out there for you.
Some of the worst bugs and quality of life stuff I've seen in a launch game in a long time. There is something interesting about the game I want to play, but it is behind a wall of "not fun" that I can't keep playing.
I'm playing rookie level and the game is just brutal to play. Enemies just absorb bullets, the enemies spot you from 100 yards away but you can't see them, radiation and hunger are off the charts, weapon degradation is horrendous, you can look at something sharp and your bleeding, it's way too dark, and these aren't even the bugs, just some of the quality of life stuff.
I've played soulslike that are less punishing.
What you are describing is pretty much just stalker games.
They are hard, they are punishing, they are moody and spooky, and they are immersive .
The last couple patches have rebalanced some of the economy and bullet-sponge. But it isn't a casual "run & gun" exploration game. Gotta treat the Zone with respect.
Having said that, worth waiting until ALife gets properly implemented (or at least partially implemented) and it should feel more immersive overall.
If I was running normal or hard, I could give those things a pass. Making enemies spongy and able to see better than you, your gun breaking after a couple magazines and constant eating and drinking, just doesn't make a fun experience. I'd hate to see a hard made. I'm still willing to wait a couple patches and come back.
Yeah, I could play it more now and didn't stop because if any issues. I'm just waiting for them to get the more advanced AI stuff working. (There's a mod that activates it, but the performance is apparently not ideal.)
Im playing on Stalker difficulty, but I have a little exoerience with the first game so I knew what I was getting into. I think they made the economy more forgiving, but honestly that wasn't an issue for me anyway. If you play the game carefully and slowly, it isn't too bad. It doesn't play like most others though.
Stealth is totally broken though. I pretty much gave up on that being reliable. I'll stealth into position to fight, or stay out of one, but using stealth as a combat tool doesn't function.
