"obtaining immigration" - Can you say that in English? Sounds really wrong to me but I'm not a native speaker.

Obtain legal immigration status is how i would phrase it.

If you attain something, you gain it or achieve it, often after a lot of effort.

They would obtain a green card or whatever physical paperwork while attaining citizenship.

You can say it but it won't mean anything. Also "is absolutely mute" should be "are absolutely moot" and the semicolon is used incorrecty.

Nope. Immigration is a process or an action, synonymous to 'movement', you cannot obtain it. You obtain a visa or a permit to perform immogration.
