Israeli officials said Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israel Defense Forces in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Hamas has not commented publicly on the reports.

Sinwar was the mastermind of the Oct. 7 terror attacks, which killed 1,200 people and set off Israel's year-long war against Hamas in Gaza. Israel has made killing him a key objective, and may now be more willing to scale back its military operations in Gaza.

Nobody wants Gaza land, it's a shit hole.

They tried to ignore Gaza before Oct 7, they were focused on the west bank settlements that were actually not garbage.

The Gaza Marine natural gas field, discovered by British Gas in 1999, is located off the coast of Gaza and contains an estimated 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas[1][2]. Despite its potential to boost the Palestinian economy, development has been hindered by political and security issues, particularly Israeli restrictions and conflicts with Hamas[3]. The field's development was approved by Israel in June 2023 as part of broader regional cooperation efforts, but ongoing tensions continue to complicate progress[2][5]. The field's strategic importance has been highlighted amid global energy shifts following the Russia-Ukraine conflict[1][4].

There's so much more elsewhere, Israel has been developing offshore gas everywhere around there, and wouldn't give a shit about Gazan claims anyway.

The west bank has Jerusalem and nice, arable land, some of the best in Palestine, they're desperate for it.

They would much rather continue to slowly settle all of the west bank while leaving Gaza as a super-slum and proof that all of Palestine are Hamas.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants Gaza, not Egypt (they were asked and said fuck no), not Israel, just nobody.

I'm not worried about Israel ever annexing Gaza, the most they might do is glass it when it gets inconvenient enough.
