I got pulled over in California with a 3.5" benchmade folding knife in my pocket. The cop asked me to exit vehicle and asked if I had any weapons. I told him I have a folding pocket knife which was in my right pocket and he asked me to remove it and place it on the hood of the vehicle. I did so slowly and telegraphed my movements and then stepped away from the vehicle so he could Pat me down. He then inspected the knife and gave me a sobriety test. I passed and he let me go. If you gave a fixed blade machete in your car you just put it in the trunk and declare it. If you're hiking with it you just need it in a holster.
You cant have a cane sword or an assasins creed style contraption or shit like that. A knife in a knife block in a cardboard box that says kitchen isnt going to violate the law
When a cop asked me if I have any weapons my answer is no. My knives are not weapons. They are tools. A weapon is made to have only one purpose and that is to cause great bodily injury or death. My knives are not solely meant to do that.
You gotta remember cops are dumb panicky animals and take any sentence longer than 8 syllables as a personal attack.
