How does an instance of Lemmy, especially a larger one like lemmy.world pay for costs involved with running a Lemmy instance in a sustainable way? (self.fediverse)

I used to pay a dollar a month to Apollo. I’m happy to donate it to a Lemmy instance.

Yep Steve Huffman literally said he didn’t want our dirty 3rd party app loving money so fuck them, let’s help build the feddiverse

All that idiot had to do was monetize 3rd party apps by expanding the API to allow for the purchase of coins/awards in return for something like a 5% cut going to the devs. Too late now though, we're all in a vastly superior social media site.
