The feline grimace scale is amazing. I can tell from my catβs face and body language when she needs help and follow it up.
She sometimes tries to hide it but when I see those signs they never lie.
Edit: Melbcat also sometimes does a light rapid breathy purr that seems like a pain purr. Sometimes purring can be a self soothing thing during pain or distress
