I'm least excited about the film, because I've never really been a fan of the Empress Georgiou character, but I'll give it a chance. Any new Star Trek movie is worth a chance.

The games seem a bit gratuitous.

I had watched it. It was funny but breaks established Vulcan traits. They are violently emotional but contain it with meditation/training to strictly follow logic. The 'logic is innate to their biology' flies in the face of canon. Didn't see a date anywhere either.

Edit: I'm hoping the full episode explains it better

It did say Spock would have to train them and they looked pretty violent in the scene where Pike has the Vulcan weapon.
