Light Phone 3 (www.thelightphone.com)

So, I preordered the Light Phone 3? I considered the 2 for a while but it is just to clunky with its eink screen, texting would be a nightmare.

What are y'all's thoughts on the new design? Do you think minimalist phones are worth it?

I won't lie, I'm a sucker for how it looks.

The punkt does not meet my functionality standards. I do not want to go back to a brick. It does not have a camera nor a screen large enough for me to see for nav. I will admit it looks dope as hell, but it's not for me.

I do like the Punkt Smart phone, but it's a full ass smartphone and I want a minimalist phone because I have a screen addiction.

I have thought about Graphene, but the issue is - if I can make my device waste my time. I will make my device waste my time. My solution would be to get a device that does the things I need it to do without giving me the ability to do more in a form factor that I like.

400$ is not too much for me to pay that. The punkt is 300. Why is 400$ a bridge to far for this form factor?

I also love the swappable battery and that they are trying to make the phone easier to repair. It can be a hotspot and that is very useful.

Regarding privacy, this is a blog post about light OS on the LP2 https://medium.com/sanctuary-computer-inc/building-lightos-with-react-native-4b6e4ad1cd7f

If that's what you want go for it. Screen addiction is definitely a thing.

Swappable battery is nice, though you might not need it. Battery is small but the chip and screen aren't really doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Reparability is still TBC

That link doesn't seem to talk about privacy, it does say it is based on Android 8.1 though.

There are some things I don't understand about this phone. Why does it need 6 GB of ram? Why a modern chip set? Albeit low end. It seems odd. I have an iPhone 5s that I use everyday for reading online, checking the weather, etc. 1 GB and an 11 year old chip work fine, and it has more functions than this phone. Maybe it is because of 5g and NFC?

Anyway, give us an update when you get it.

Don't know yet - there's a lot they haven't fully released. So I'll keep watching it - if I change my mind, I'll get money back :)
