For any new UK users to Lemmy, consider making an account over at Feddit.uk. It’s an growing instance with a specific community focus on all things UK!

I’m not a admin of that instance, but made my own account after Lemmy.ml became too slow to use and the difference is night and day, at the time of writing.

TV Tuesday? (feddit.uk)
submitted 2 years ago by [email protected] to c/ukcasual

Are we doing a TV Tuesday? We've just finished watching Annika. It was sort of refreshing to watch a "murder of the week" style show again. The best part of the show was obviously Nicola Walker, but also and Silvie Furneaux as her daughter Morgan. As a listener to the Doctor Who audios, Nicola's scenes and obvious chemistry with Paul McGann was a high point too.

Anyway, we've finished that last night so looking for recommendations!

Alright refugees!

I reckon we need to have a threat to chat. About stuff. With reddit 'closing' for the next few days in some cases, and foreseeable in others, I felt like this thread was appropriate.

What are you all up to today? Anything interesting going on? I already know it's too hot.

It's over at https://feddit.uk/c/london I hope you don't mind the self promotion but I wanted to get the word out there.

I hope we can forge a great relationship and possibly create a great network of communities as we learn, grow and most importantly, have fun.

cross-posted from: https://feddit.uk/post/9181

I have no idea what I'm doing so bear with me as I get my bearings.

Rules and other welcoming info can be found here, and comment below if you have any ideas for and additional rules and info you like to see as well as suggestions for the community as a whole.

Thank you for checking us out!

This community still needs an icon, and just the flag is boring. What does the community want to see?

I'm absolutely loving the new Murlocs album. And James Acaster's project TEMPS is fantastic.

Anyone heard anything good recently?

Saturday chat thread (self.ukcasual)

It's Saturday, one of the best days of the week (for those of us who don't work weekends, anyway).

What's happening? Barbeque in the sun? Sheltering from an impending thunderstorm?

Pop in for a chat.

Moderators wanted! (self.ukcasual)
submitted 2 years ago by sideone to c/ukcasual

Hi all,

I never expected us to get this many users (200 so far!) in only a few days. It's become clear that I probably don't have enough free time to moderate this place on my own, so it would be great if we could appoint a couple more moderators.

We don't have many rules here, basically

  • don't be a dick

  • no politics

So, any volunteers? Cheers all 🙂

Map of Memorial Benches (openbenches.org)
submitted 2 years ago by [email protected] to c/ukcasual

I hope a little bit of self-promotion is allowed?

My wife and I run "Open Benches" which is a crowdsourced collection of memorial benches. We've got about 25,000 in the UK!

If you're out for a walk in the sunshine this weekend, please take a photo of any memorial benches you see. You'll need to turn on location tagging on your phone's camera - that way we can accurately place the benches on the map.

Enjoy!

Morning, how're we doing.

I don't know if we can make the daily threads a regular (or perhaps even an automated) thing, but do drop in for a natter.

I've been trying to get into a routine of going for a morning walk. It's not far, just basically climbing a hill near home, sitting down on a bench at the top pretending to enjoy the view but really trying not to pass out because I'm terribly unfit, then back down.

Well, guess what used to be in that patch of dirt? Yep, my bench.

Who suddenly took it away? No idea. For what purpose? Beats me.

Now I just have to defiantly sit on the grass next to it and dare anyone to comment.

Hmph.

What's grinding your gears today?

I took some photos a while back on an adventure to Aldershot because I enjoy seeing dead malls and places that are going abandoned.

This is the shopping center. Unfortunately it was blocked off but through the gate I got a really great photo of the eerie liminal space beyond!

It was my bday last week and I was desperate for a good old fashioned lemon top. Alas, even though they sell those at basically every seaside town on the coast of NE England, we apparently picked the exception.

Got this lemon swirl as a backup and it was pretty good, ngl. It was no lemon top though, I'm still a bit salty a week later.
