Was having slight buyers remorse with my OLED deck cause I have a switch that has been collecting dust for years… Then booted up Mass Effect LE and was just amazed that I can actually play this mobile with 60-90fps ( TDP dependent) . Haven’t even set up emulation yet and it already feels like money well spent. Y’all were right.

  1. Your deck turned off at 40% and now the light blinks 3 times. —- just plug it in and charge it to 100%
  2. Your Deck turned off and fans went full blast —- hold the power button for 10 seconds and it should restart If that didn’t work see if the haptic motors are moving if they are contact valve its most likely a GPU or Screen Issue if they arent moving plug it in
  3. Your Deck is frozen like your wrists with ice hold the power button for 10 seconds
  4. Your Deck wont update restart

Will Update this with new stuff when i learn more

I have my deck docked on my 4K TV. I resized the taskbar, global scaling, icon on the desktop, but the contextual menu (as well as start menu) is still very small. Is there a way to scale that as well?

Hey fellow gamers

I wanted to install Dofus on my steam deck and followed the tuto on GitHub (in french, sorry. Link : https://gist.github.com/remi-dupre/e5340ca852ae974fdd5509d545b0b4ed#file-steam-ankama-launcher-sh) But the loading screen seems to be stuck at 56% and I don't know what to do... If any of you have an idea, thanks !!

Anyone else's LE OLED this creaky? I get that they had to use a different plastic to make it transparent but it's honestly gotten to the point that it's starting to bother me during gameplay. Just curious if anyone else has the same experience and if there's anything I can do to remedy it.

Hello, I am having trouble connecting my SteamDeck to my VPN since my L2TP is missing. I tried reinstalling the network-manager-l2tp (along with xl2tpd) package but it says it already exists in the system for some reason?

Is this a bug or are there any changes on the system recently? Thanks

As the title says, I fixed my L1 with a Ripped middle pad, now it does work, but there is no vibration to be felt at the left trackpad, but inputs with it do work, so it's really only the haptics.

I'm not a big fan of the store ads and community features that are always displayed at the bottom

I've seen many posts like "70% of us not gamers, we're testers". It is well known tendency. While I can't fully relate to this, I have a tendency that i'm not as interested in gaming as I used to be. While it quite normal, I'm willing to be sucked up by a game, but it has become harder.

For me(32y) it is sounds just sad. I started to play since my parents bought me Dreamcast back in 2000 year in Russia. After that, four of my friends and brothers become infected by it and bought Dreamcast. It was wild to play in such console, winter, Siberia, pure magic on your TV, something like Shenmue or Sonic Adventure 2 was captivating like another boundless world. Then I got PC and so on. I won't write my whole gaming history here. Just wanted to add a bit emotions and nostalgia into it.

After that were many games, I ended up with multiplayer ones. With steam deck I've done some cinematic games like Life is strange, stray.. but I'm struggling with solo gaming now.

What keeps you into gaming? Do you have some hacks or approaches to deal with it? I don't want to play in steam store, I would feel myself miserable because of it. It looks like a contemporary form of hoarding. For example, my brother has around 1000+ games, and he doesn't look much happy with it judging from what he says. I don't have something against this, just not my thing.

I have some personal approaches. For solo, I got used to finding something with strong story and many dialogues. Though i don't play much, I like competitive games like Rainbow Six siege or Overwatch. And the reason why i every evening play in steam deck is Moira. Yes Moira character in overwatch, she fits to steam deck gamepad ideally. You needn't much aim but a lot of tactics and there is escape and healing for any moment, very forgivable character that let you be effective and even a bit competitive. And if there was no moira i couldn't imagine what I would play then. Maybe I should get into docking and play via mouse/keyboard. I'm still find it interesting that one particular character keeps me into gaming. I wish there were more games, character like this to me. So, does someone have something like this?

There is also gaming industry that i think became worse because of marketing, buisness wants to interfere with the creative process. Seems like buisness has greater impact than it was back in old days when skill was more valued, it was not just high paid work in IT. I guess those guys were kind of wizards of that time in gamedev. I don't know though.

So I’ve got everything on my PC running in WinSCP. I’ve enabled sshd in Konsole on the deck.

However, when I try to connect WinSCP says steamdeck is not a valid hostname.

In Konsole I type hostname and it returns with Bash: hostname: configuration not found

I’m at a loss trying to figure this out…

Hello all,

After hours of struggle before getting the Elden Ring Reforged to work on the deck, I just thought I'd share my guide to help anyone who is having trouble as well.

The whole process can be done with just the Steam Deck, but it will be much easier if you have a keyboard and mouse to pair it with the deck.

Also, this is for the Steam version. I cannot help if you have any other version.

Now without further ado, here are the instructions.

On the deck:

  1. Make a clean/ vanilla save for Elden Ring. The best way to do this is to re-install your game, unless you know what files to delete. Just make sure to actually launch and play the game after re-installing/ deleting the files to actually make it a clean/ vanilla save. Also, make a backup of this save folder just in case.

Save file/ folder location

HOME/.local/share/STEAM/steamapps/common/compdata/1245620/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/EldenRing

(Just copy the whole "EldenRing" folder)

  1. Enter desktop mode and download + extract Elden Ring Reforged (ERR) to a temporary folder ("Download" is good enough)

  2. Open "Steam" in desktop mode and click "Add a non-steam game" option.

  3. In the new browser, click "Browse" and navigate to the folder where you extracted the ERR and select the file "Reforged UI Setup (run before first-time play).lnk" (If the file doesn't show up, make sure you change the extension option at the bottom of the browser to "All files")

  4. Once it is added on the left panel, click the cog icon on the game page and change the compatibility to "Proton Experimental".

  5. Launch the setup and follow the installer (once the setup is complete you can remove it from steam).

  6. In the ERR folder, go into compatibility/linux and copy the "chr" folder to the "modz" folder (overwrite if prompted).

  7. Move the "dll" and "modz" folder from the ERR folder to the Elden Ring game directory (HOME/.local/share/STEAM/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game).

  8. In the modengine folder, copy the "modengine2" folder and "modengine2_launcher.exe" file to the Elden Ring game directory.

  9. Download and extract the proton enabled ModEngine 2

https://github.com/Cloudef/ModEngine2/releases/

  1. Inside the ME2 folder, copy "config_eldenring.toml" and "launchmod_eldenring.bat" to the Elden Ring Game directory.

  2. Add the "launchmod_eldenring.bat" in Steam using the "Add a non-steam game" option and rename it to Elden Ring Reforged and change the compatibility to "Proton Experimental".

  3. Launch the game.

If all goes well, you'll be able to play ERR now. Happy hunting.

However, if you are one of those unlucky fellas like me who gets the "Failed to load save..." error in the title screen, despite having a clean/ vanilla save proceed to the next set of steps.

  1. Open the Elden Ring Reforged compdata folder. (If you have added the "launchmod_eldenring.bat" to Steam using "Add a non-steam game" and launched it, a new folder in the compdata should have been created. Sort the folders by "date modified" and find the most recently modified folder)

  2. If you have successfully found the compdata folder, copy the vanilla save to the Elden Ring Reforged save directory.

...compdata/(your ERR compdata ID)/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/EldenRing

  1. Launch the game (again).

Hopefully this will allow you to get passed the "Failed to load save..." error.

Like the title says, what games have you actually beat on the steam deck itself, I notice alot of people always say they play a game for like a few hours and then never play it again, so I want to know out of all the top games that people play, all those top steam games that are played on the steam deck, what games are you actually beating while playing in handheld? What games are you beating from start to finish playing only handheld, and on deck battery, I'll go first, the only game I beat on the steam deck, and I have over 100 games now since I bought it, is orcs must die 3, really good game I recommend it if u didnt play it, but this game me 2.5 hours of gameplay on a single charge from 100%, like I really want to know what games are you playing and beating on a road trip, cuz I have been switch between 5 games and haven't really play or progressed in that 2 hour drive, so what games are you beating on the go in hand held from start to finish?

Tldr: what games you beating from start to finish only on battery and using steam deck?

Hi Guys. I've been the happy owner of an original 64 GB LCD since they finally shipped mine Q3. Despite all the times I could have desperately used a storage upgrade (damn you shader cache!!!) I never thought twice about swapping my NVMe because, despite being somewhat hardware savvy, I can't financially afford to tinker with my SD and risk breaking anything. Instead I followed the steps to move the offensive storage hog folders to the SD card and lived my portable gamer life mostly worry free. About a week ago I went to wake the SD from sleep and it was frozen on a black screen. Not unusual, so I did a restart. This time it froze on the logo. I powered down, removed the SD card and restarted again, now getting the multi-choice Steam OS boot screen giving me the option to boot existing A, previous B, or erase user data. I did some research and found I most likely had corrupted data and to try erasing user data, and if that didn't work to re-image the drive. After trial and errors I followed the steps to re-image the drive and landed on the Welcome screen of my "new" deck, only to have it freeze again during installation validation. I restarted, and this time it froze on the Welcome screen. Then just bad boots. I decided to again re-image the drive, and at this point began getting the error: _Failed to start mount of removable drive sda#_ The drive also couldn't be located in Dolphin, and the only drive appearing was my boot USB. After several more attempts of re-imaging the results were the same.

I decided that my issue must be failure of the OEM internal drive, so I bought a replacement. It arrived today and installed flawlessly, but after once again attempting to re-image the new NVMe I got the same errors. The new drive isn't recognized either.

Am I missing a step? I started a ticket with Valve, but I feel like this has to be a software issue. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I wasn’t doing nothing unusual, just playing hell divers 2 and the lines showed up, it slowly shut down and the fans went high blast… did I do something wrong?

I know that I’m a week late as I have had my deck since last Wednesday but I really wanted to get a good handle on most of what it could do before I gushed about it.

I have been playing video games since I was 3 or 4. My first memory of one was being at sears with my mother and late father and they picked up a Super Nintendo that came with Mario Paint. I had a blast with that thing and everything I got to play on it.

I’ve had the NES, genesis, n64, many a gameboy from the original to the pocket to the color to both advanced/sp, the ds lite, ps1, ps2, xbox 360 and the last one being the wii. We don’t talk about the wii anymore. I’m ok with that lol.

When I first held a friend’s lcd deck, it immediately felt like the most comfortable thing I have ever held in my hands. It was so nice to hold. I tried portal thinking ya know, l’ll put it down in a few minutes cause I could never get into it. An hour later and everyone still playing the board game they were playing and the deck would not let me put it down. I have never enjoyed playing portal. I know others have but I never did. Dear god the controls, the trackpad oh god the trackpad and the screen. Everything just begged me to keep playing. I couldn’t stop enjoying myself.

Now I have my own 1tb oled deck with several accessories, almost all of which were somehow on sale before my deck arrived. I am addicted to using this thing. Playing games just to see if and how they run, tweaking performance and playing with deckyloader.

I am still figuring out emulation and will one day succeed at learning how to get my custom boot animation to not auto delete lol, but I am ridiculously satisfied with my purchase. I’m hoping to make a list of things I found for folks that are looking for a reference for things that weren’t obvious or didn’t necessarily have an easy search option. Like, I had no idea you needed to enable steam input to allow custom or community controller layouts. I just thought you simply selected and were good to go. Haven’t figured out how to delete a downloaded layout yet.

My current addictions are sonic frontiers now that I figured out how to get a good and solid frame rate but also slay the spire may be the easiest game I’ve picked up since the nes and snes days lol. Never have I enjoyed failing so much and climbing back up that damn spire!

Tetris effect in hdr is so jaw droppingly gorgeous I can’t even explain it! Spyro runs fairly well at medium and if I don’t mind 30fps, I can go all the way to ultra which is insane!

Having mega man battle network has brought me back to middle school and I gotta say I almost teared up a bit. Also, having a color profile that brings out more contrast in those collections is incredible!

I look forward to unlocking more of my deck’s true potential as I learn more and more. Of course now I am gonna try figuring out how to get surfshark to work so I can use it for stuff in desktop mode.

Overall, ridiculously happy. If you are deciding between anti glare vs glossy, don’t even worry about it. Pick which one you feel you want more. The antiglare screen looks just as nice as the glossy oleds I’m used to.

Happy to be part of the deck gang and looking forward to playing stuff I never felt inclined to play before and enjoy stuff I did even more.
