I download Linux isos and there are sometimes not a lot of seeds and a lot of peers. I rarely see any upload rates. How can I be one of the 6 people to have downloaded a torrent and none of the 220 peers are receiving data from me? What should I be checking to make sure seeding is working properly? Even if I leave it there for hours I come back to 0 bytes uploaded.

It seems that I can only see the peers for one torrent at a time (click on the torrent in the list, and then the peers tab). Is it possible to simultaneously see the peers for all torrents in a list?

Can your port forward via a proxy? If I setup a proxy in a torrent client like qBittorrent, will this allow me to port forward also?

I would like to always have a VPN be running on my computer and I will use a proxy in qBittorrent if the proxy allows me to port forward regardless of my VPN allowing port forwarding.

upload connectivity (lemmy.fmhy.ml)

Hello, lovelies. QBT was working well in both directions. Now it isn't. The little fire icon at the bottom of the screen is always on. I've downloaded, but peer connections don't seem to be working. I've been all over the internet trying to troubleshoot, to no avail. I posted on Reddit, but then the exodus happened. 1.) It's not the firewall (Bitdefender). There's a rule in place. Also, I turned off the firewall, and nothing changed. I tried enabling port scanning. Nothing changed. 2.) I went to Nord's advice page https://support.nordvpn.com/Connectivity/Proxy/1087802472/Proxy-setup-on-qBittorrent.htm
and followed their directions, screenshot attached. Part of their instructions include going to ipleak.net and using ipleak's magnet link. Nord says addresses are supposed to match. They didn't. Here are screenshots. I tried different servers. I tried a P2P server. 3.) In the absence of help during the exodus, I reset Windows network connections. Nothing changed. I reinstalled Windows 11 (what a PIA!). Nothing changed. Since reinstalling all software, QBT ratios show nobody's downloaded anything from me, which is unusual, even though stuff I like has small swarms.

4.) I tried reinstalling QBT. Then I tried versions 4.5.3, 4.5.2, and 4.5.1. Nothing changed. The little orange flame is still burning. In case it matters, the only place I'm torrenting from/to is rutracker.

If you read this far, tyvm. If you've got suggestions, thank you even more.

H flag (lemmy.fmhy.ml)

Using only 1 public tracker. DHT enabled in options. Question: if public trackers don't use DHT, where do peers with H flag come from?

First off, you may be wondering “Do I even need to port forward?” This question really boils down to wether or not you want to be able to seed. You may want to join some private trackers that require you to maintain an upload ratio or you may just want to torrent sustainably and give back what you take, both require port forwarding. If you’re already shopping for a VPN to protect yourself while you torrent, you might as well go for one that includes this feature.

What difference does port forwarding make to seeding? Without having a port for peers to see you on, you are not connectable. If you’re not connectable, you cannot seed. From the TorrentLeech wiki:

When you start a torrent, your client sends a notification to the tracker that you are opting to be a peer for this torrent. Your client also tells the tracker what Port number your torrent client is configured to listen on. This process is known as an “Announce”. >

AirVPN is an excellent choice for torrenting as BitTorrent is explicitly allowed by their ToS and each account is allowed 20 ports to forward.

To get set up, first purchase some time on AirVPN’s website. Once your account has been activated, you will need to download the required software to have your computer connect to the VPN. For me using a headless Linux server, I went with wireguard, but feel free to download AirVPNs app for Windows or any other way you want to connect. For my instance, on AirVPN’s website I clicked the “Client Area” tab and then “Config Generator” to create the wireguard conf file.

Once you are able to connect to the VPN, we can set up port forwarding. On AirVPN’s website, click “Client Area” then in the “Ports” box hit the “Manage” button. When on the port manager page, click “Request New Port”. This will give you a port number that isn’t already taken. Now that we have our port number, we can hop back over to qBittorrent. Open the qBittorrent settings and click the “Connection” tab. In the “Listening Port” section there is a box where we can type in our port number. Type the number given to you by AirVPN and hit “save” at the bottom. Now you just have to restart qBittorrent for the change to take effect.

We can now test that port forwarding is set up correctly by returning to the “Ports” section of “Client Area” on the AirVPN website. Under your port that you opened earlier, hit the “Test Open” button. If AirVPN can see qBittorrent as a running service, a message saying “Open!” will appear confirming that qBittorrent is configured correctly to use port forwarding.

Now you are free to enjoy torrenting knowing that you are continuing to the community every time you download.

I liked the rarbg one in the past, but RIP to it. 1337 works, but Torrent Galaxy one hasn't been working for me.

I can't believe it! I've been using this site for years to grab high quality movies, anyone know of an alternative? I'm not really interested in private trackers unless they don't have ridiculous seeding requirements.

I'm trying to link a docker container qFlood to my VPN (proton) on the host to prevent IP leaks.

When everything is on the host, I can just choose "proton0" in the network interface to use, but I don't know how to do that inside the container because this interface is not exposed to the container.

Is there a way to do that?

Or even to implement the VPN inside a container?

What the alternative to prevent IP leaks with qBit on docker?

edit:

I used gluetun + qFlood as advised and it worked like a charmed except that I could't seed or leach at all

Turns out the solution was to change the network interface in qBittorrent options from eth0 to tun0… Simple as that

Thank you all for the help!

I've been looking for a good dark theme for qBitTorrent's web UI, but it seems like they have made some changes that broke most of them. For example, Dracula Theme is broken. Are there any dark themes out there that are working properly on the latest version of qBitTorrent?
