When Russia fired its new experimental hypersonic missile into Ukraine for the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin also issued a warning to Ukraine's backers. Telling them to back off. Cautioning them that the weapon which struck Ukraine was designed for a "decisive" strike on them. Will Putin attack the U.S. and UK? And, more importantly, how are they planning to respond?

The fourth single off Jackson’s album HIStory, this is one of Michael’s most controversial songs of all time and was accused of being anti-Semitic. The song is a plea against racism and a call for powerful people to stop ignoring human rights. However, some interpreted these lyrics to have the absolute opposite meaning of Jackson’s intent. Jackson denied this later, and was offended his lyrics could be interpreted that way.^[[1] https://genius.com/Michael-jackson-they-dont-care-about-us-lyrics]

Key Points:

  1. Media Manipulation: The media’s portrayal of events often skews the reality, influencing public perception and discourse about Israeli actions. This manipulation serves political agendas and can incite further violence.
  2. Symbolic Attacks: The targeted uprooting of Palestinian flags by Israeli hooligans indicates a deeper ideological conflict, showcasing the aggression against Palestinian identity rather than mere sports rivalry.
  3. Alternative Journalism: The role of citizen journalists is crucial in providing unfiltered narratives, challenging mainstream media’s coverage and highlighting overlooked realities.
  4. Social Tensions: The violence in Amsterdam is symptomatic of broader societal tensions, where sports events become flashpoints for underlying ethnic and political conflicts.
  5. Historical Context: The alliance between anti-Semites and Zionists historically demonstrates a complex relationship where both groups benefit from anti-Semitic rhetoric, complicating narratives of victimhood.
  6. Psychological Factors: The victimhood mentality prevalent in Israeli society drives a narrative that justifies aggression, affecting both domestic and international relations.
  7. Radicalization Trends: The rise of extreme political figures in Israel reflects a worrying trend towards normalization of violence and rhetoric that dismisses Palestinian rights, potentially leading to increased conflict.

Zachary Foster, a historian of Palestine, joins the show to break down the last week of attacks in Amsterdam and debunk the widespread narrative in mainstream media of antisemitic "pogroms." Foster explains how the media twisted the unfolding events by omitting the anti-Muslim, anti-Arab violence and threats from Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer fans that instigated the clashes – provocations seen in widely-shared video online.

Key Points:

  1. AIPAC’s Influence: AIPAC’s power in shaping political narratives demonstrates the challenges faced by progressive politicians advocating for Palestinian rights. Its substantial financial backing can silence dissenting voices.
  2. Gerrymandering Impact: The redrawing of districts to exclude Black voters reflects systemic racism within the Democratic Party and highlights how political maneuvering can undermine representation.
  3. Intersectionality of Struggles: Bowman’s experiences illustrate the interconnectedness of racial justice and Palestinian rights, emphasizing that struggles against oppression are universal.
  4. Regret and Reflection: His regret over the Iron Dome vote shows the importance of evolving political consciousness and accountability among lawmakers.
  5. Call for Ceasefire: Bowman’s support for ceasefire resolutions underscores the urgent need for immediate humanitarian action amidst ongoing violence.
  6. Political Accountability: The backlash he faced from constituents illustrates the difficulty of balancing political responsibilities with moral convictions in Congress.
  7. Resilience in Advocacy: Bowman’s determination to continue advocating for justice and equality, despite losing his congressional seat, exemplifies the resilience needed in grassroots movements.

Congressional Rep Jamaal Bowman joined Rania Khalek to discuss the bipartisan AIPAC-funded campaign to push him out of office, his evolution on Palestine, his views on the Biden administration and what comes next.

This is just part of this episode.

Edit: summary of video was added under "Key Points"

Key Points:

  1. Election Impact: Trump’s election victory reflects public discontent with the Democratic Party’s economic messaging, particularly regarding working-class struggles. The shift suggests a potential pivot in U.S. foreign policy focus.
  2. Trade Policies: Trump’s emphasis on tariffs, particularly against China, may lead to inflation and retaliatory measures, complicating U.S. consumer markets and international trade relations.
  3. Geopolitical Tensions: The appointment of hardliners in Trump’s administration indicates a stronger likelihood of military confrontation with China, challenging previous diplomatic norms.
  4. Economic Strategy: Trump’s neo-mercantilist approach to trade could exacerbate economic divisions and hinder genuine industrial growth in the U.S., highlighting the limitations of protectionism.
  5. War Machine Momentum: The U.S. military’s preparations for conflict with China suggest an entrenched war mentality, with significant implications for global stability and security.
  6. China’s Resilience: China’s ability to pivot away from U.S. markets showcases its growing self-sufficiency and strategic foresight, challenging the narrative of American hegemony.
  7. Potential for Conflict: The intertwining of economic and military strategies raises alarms about the risk of a new Cold War, underlining the importance of diplomacy and dialogue to avert escalating tensions.

On this week’s episode, Amanda and KJ reflect on the factors that led to Kamala Harris’s election day defeat and look into Trump’s appointed officials and potential appointees to predict what a China policy would look like under his second term. One thing is clear: the war on China is only accelerating.

Our understanding of China — and U.S.-China relations — has become a defining feature of all global politics. The China Report is a new show produced in collaboration with Pivot to Peace where every week, journalist Amanda Yee and political analyst KJ Noh will be helping you through all the propaganda with an independent view of the country we are taught to hate, but know so little about.

"Does the average Jew know anything about the people of Palestine?"

Physician and trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté answered an Israeli audience member asking how she could 'have compassion' for the 'animals' involved in last year's 7 October attacks.

Dr. Maté first corrected her recollection of 7 October before arguing that history did not begin on October 7th and comparing the treatment of indigenous Palestinians with that of indigenous communities in Canada and the US, receiving multiple rounds of applause from the rest of the audience.

Key Points:

  1. Military Leadership Concerns: The appointment of a politically aligned defense minister raises concerns about Israel’s military effectiveness and strategic decisions, potentially compromising national security.
  2. Hezbollah’s Resistance: Hezbollah’s ability to inflict casualties on Israeli forces underscores its military capabilities, challenging Israel’s dominance in the region and complicating future military operations.
  3. Political Turmoil in Israel: The firing of Galant reveals deep fractures within Israeli leadership, suggesting potential instability in military and political strategy, which could lead to significant operational risks.
  4. Economic Pressures on U.S. Foreign Policy: As economic conditions worsen, Trump’s administration may need to reassess its military engagements and focus on domestic prosperity, impacting international relations.
  5. Emerging Global Alliances: The strengthening of ties among Russia, China, and Iran represents a significant shift in geopolitical dynamics, challenging U.S. influence and complicating international diplomacy.
  6. Democratic Party’s Vision Crisis: The Democratic Party’s failure to present a coherent and inspiring vision may lead to electoral losses, as voters seek tangible solutions rather than negative campaigning.
  7. Shift Towards Diplomacy: Trump’s inclination toward negotiation rather than military confrontation may reshape U.S. foreign policy, potentially leading to a more stable Middle East if successful.

Edit2: added Key Points information

Key Points:

  1. Common Currency Misconceptions: A common BRICS currency isn’t intended to replace national currencies. Instead, it will serve as a unit for trade clearing, thus avoiding potential pitfalls seen in the Euro’s design.
  2. Regional Cooperation Importance: Global South countries should collaborate to leverage their diverse resources, enhancing trade and investment opportunities, thereby fostering mutual growth.
  3. Local Currency Borrowing Strategy: Increasing local currency borrowing helps countries avoid vulnerabilities associated with foreign debt, allowing them to focus on domestic development.
  4. Clearing Unit Mechanism: A common clearing unit can streamline trade between countries without direct implications for their domestic currencies, promoting smoother economic interactions.
  5. Need for International Reform: The current international financial system requires revamping to better support developing economies, addressing issues like climate financing and equitable resource distribution.
  6. Domestic Resource Mobilization: Countries must prioritize using their domestic resources for development, reducing reliance on foreign borrowing, and building a more resilient economy.
  7. Preventing Currency Hoarding: Establishing rules against the accumulation of common currency units is vital to ensure equitable use and prevent economic disparities between countries in the BRICS alliance.

[Part 2 of 2]

The BRICS financial system won't be a copy/paste of western institutions and it will certainly not be a second "Euro". Nobody would be that foolish again. Instead, the financial architecture will be a decentralised system build on the convertibility of currencies and potentially a common unit of account to replace the dollar's function as a world wide price tag.

China's BIGGEST Debt Problem Is Local. MMT Explains Why. | Prof. Yan Liang

[Part 1 of 2] https://youtu.be/rM174ufXeNg

With one of the strongest and most sovereign currencies in the world, does China really have anything to worry about when it comes to monetary or fiscal policy? Well, yes, local government debt turns out to be quite a structural problem. One, however, with a relatively simple fix, at least absent domestic power politics.

Today I'm talking to Dr. Yan Liang, who is a Professor of Economics at Willamette University, a private liberal arts college in the US. She is also a Research Associate at the Levy Economics Institute and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Global Development Policy Center of Boston University.

8 Months ago I found the US Marine Corps Jungle Survival school in Okinawa Japan on Google Maps. So I reached out to the USMC and asked if I could attend the school and film the experience and they said "Yes". Prior to arriving to Okinawa I knew Very Very little about what actually happens at the USMC Jungle Survival school and boy was I in for a surprise.

I was attached with their leadership course, a more rigorous course for team and squad level leaders. Its a 5 week course that teaches repelling and crossing extreme terrain, how to treat and evacuate casualties in the jungle and spends a lot of time on jungle tactics. The fourth week of the training is all about survival in jungle environment. So I joined about 30 marines for survival school portion of their training.

For survival week, we were not allowed to bring food, caffeine, nicotine tabaco, spare cloths, tents, sleeping bag and most every creature comfort you would want in the jungle. There were 6 items we were allowed and a few items like tarps were we allowed only 1 per team.

I was deeply impressed by the all the students and instructors I met during my week with the USMC and am really grateful that I got to spend a week with them.
