"Hello Everyone!

Another busy year for No Man’s Sky is drawing to a close, and this holiday season we are pleased to revisit our tradition of running remixed editions of this year’s expeditions.

Across the following dates, 2023’s community expeditions will be available once more, taking place in new sections of the universe, offering explorers another opportunity to experience these stories and events and earn exclusive rewards.

In addition to the 2023 expeditions, we are also bringing back a limited run of the community favourite Cartographers, from 2021. The bundle of rewards includes some of the most popular items from across a number of past expeditions, including the coveted Golden Vector starship – an exciting opportunity for players who missed out on the chance to earn these rewards during the original expedition runs."

The link then provides examples of the content which can be unlocked during these Expeditions.

Good journeys travelers!

I have been playing NMS via GOG off and on since release day. I completed the first expedition and then have not played another one until the most recent three, which I did on my PS5, and the most recent one I did also on Mac via Steam. I have been looking forward to playing older expeditions I missed in years prior, plus being able to have them done on both Steam and PS5.

But in looking at the last two years both times the expedition replays started in November. I am slowly losing hope that I will get to play them this year.

Featured Colonies

PLEASE CONTACT THE GOVERNOR OF ANY COLONY IN HUB SPACE BEFORE UPLOADING A BASE IN THE COLONY SYSTEM. The easiest way to do this is in the corresponding colony channel of the Galactic Hub Discord.

  • Genesis Colony - Genesis is based on the beautiful lush planet of Kansfiel Omega. Players will band together to struggle to survive in the harshest iteration of the simulation known to interloper-kind. Genesis Colony's Sentinel Annihilation Service has also been known to dispatch exploration teams to seek out additional locations in Hub space suitable to Permadeath inhabitation.

  • Asphodel Colony - Asphodel colony focuses on a fantasy theme with heavy influences from Greek mythology. It is a roleplaying colony but this is not essential, we just mean that faction vs faction does not relate to any in-game or real life wars or politics. It is encouraged to create a character backstory of your choosing to fit the narrative and the lore of your chosen faction. In Asphodel, you can let your imagination run wild and allow yourself to play as either your chosen in-game race or take inspiration from the fantasy genre and play as anything you like. Maybe you want to be a witch or a fae? How about a gnome or an ogre? The world is your oyster, we just have one rule for your backstory and that is that we won't allow overpowered backstories, like gods or demi-gods, it just takes away from the overall narrative.

The Galactic Hub Project

Largest & Oldest Active Civilization

11,000+ Player Bases, 75,000+ Subreddit Subscribers, 12,000+ Discord Members

The Galactic Hub Project (r/NMSGalacticHub), founded October 2016, is Euclid's multiplayer hotspot. With a greater concentration of players than anywhere else in No Man's Sky, there's no better location to experience Civilized Space gameplay!

A few of our features include:

  • Chapters - The Galactic Hub has a variety of sub-organizations called Chapters, like the GH Exobiology Corps (focused on fauna), the GH Defense Force (focused on defense & combating griefers), the GH Star League (focused on hosting multiplayer "simulation sports" competitions), & more!

  • Colonies - In the Hub, colonies are communities of multiple players collaborating in some way. This always includes building bases, which are often built under the same theme. Colonies may be as big as a whole system, or as small as a single trade post. The most active colonies are managed by Governors. Governors are interlopers who volunteer to run a colony. A governor's main focus is keeping their colony active - this often involves writing missions or hosting events for their colonists. Some colonies even have Mayors, which manage even smaller communities known as Territories within a Colony. Anyone may set up their own colony in Hub space and act as a Governor!

  • Multiplayer Events - From laid-back Social Nights to the NMS take on eSports Star League, the Galactic Hub has multiplayer social events nearly every week - sometimes multiple each week. Come meet your neighbors!

  • Economy - The GH has its own native currency, HubCoin. It is rewarded exclusively for activity representing the Galactic Hub on various platforms (Reddit, Discord, Wiki, Twitter). HubCoin is never available for sale for dollars, pounds, etc - "real world money" is never required or involved. HubCoin is used to facilitate a metagame economy. For example, to earn coin, players can open their own Businesses with in-game locations in Hub space. To spend coin, players might browse our Discord server's Marketplace and buy goods like custom ships, custom companions, services-of-convenience (ie construction materials), or even 100%-free real-world Hub merch. (Real-world merch availability may vary.)

  • Canonization - Hello Games was kind enough to canonize the Galactic Hub. In other words, we're official in-game content! The "Pilgrim" title can only be unlocked by visiting our old capital planet, New Lennon. Our emblem can be purchased at the QuickSilver store as a base decal or player banner. We're also referenced in the Mission Board and the dialogue of a Traveller, as well as being referenced in the Waking Titan ARG!

That's just a quick look at some of our features. We also have interactions with other civilizations, we're a founding member of the United Federation of Travelers, and much more - but above all else, what really defines the Galactic Hub is our thriving and friendly community. Join us and find your new home in the stars!

I want a ship that's harder to hit as I'm trying to get away. The starter ship has an okay back profile, but there's not enough inventory.

Some shuttles inevitably spawn as tubes, and some have the inventory I need, but as soon as they turn just a little bit they're pretty open. Sometimes I get hit by the AIs warning shot. They're also not generally that fast.

What I really need is a balance between inventory and getting hit less.

I started a third play through first time in +1 year and I found out that you can have many simultaneous fauna culling and destroy sentinel missions. I'm not sure what's the mission limit, but it's at least 70.

I jumped dozens of systems while traveling to Eissentam galaxy center and accepted any such missions, then I only had to kill 15 fauna, 2 predators and few waves of sentinels no matter how many missions I had accepted. Most missions such as pirate destroying, delivery, scan etc missions are location dependent so they can't be completed simultaneously.

I shat myself at 1:15 when all of the mission completion sounds played at the same time very loudly.

HUBTalks are like TEDTalks, but in NMS. These informative lectures on topics relating to science, sci-fi, technology, or No Man's Sky (including comedy or art pertaining to those topics) take place once per month in Galactic Hub space. Usually they are scheduled for the first weekend of every month. Anyone may speak at these events.

For more info or to take place in the next talk, join the Galactic Hub Discord! 🖖🏻

Do you think he specializes catering weddings for Vy'keen? Gek? Korvax? Or does he stick to making Autophage wedding cakes?

Or is he just really old, unfamiliar with this newfangled slang, and simply happy to bake all the time? (Maybe he throws some 'nip in?)

👻 HALLOWEEN HAS COME TO THE GALACTIC HUB 🎃

🦇🪦 WrittenRealms Link 🪦🦇

You are invited to Miskatonic City, a first-of-its-kind NMS-RPG narrative featuring over 500 lines of original dialogue and 26 NPCs to interact with. (This is a visiting-only system! Please do not drop a base here.)

Venture to the swamps of Miskatonic City, a former logging town now under the influence of a mysterious biotechnical company. Solve the mystery threatening the city and decide the fate of Miskatonic, with multiple quests all converging into the same ultimate decision. Plus a few side quests!

Collect Halloween-themed companions, earn HubCoin, and unlock the location of a new colony as you progress through the city and meet more of its residents.

Join the #miskatonic-city-👻 channel by selecting the 👻 emoji in the #colony-role-select channel of the Galactic Hub Project Discord. This will give you the "Miskatonic City Visitor" role, allowing you to discuss the narrative with other interlopers. Try to avoid spoilers, but anyone reading the #miskatonic-city-👻 channel does so at their own risk!

Please read all of the images in the guide below before starting Miskatonic City.

Aspects of it will probably be confusing to you otherwise.

To avoid any rendering issues and preserve space for possible future NMS-RPG in the system, please do not upload a base anywhere in the Miskatonic City system. We'd love to have you elsewhere in Hub space, and the colony you can unlock through Miskatonic City has room for tons of people!

(NOTE: The post-game is not done yet. ~~Can you tell I'm a real Fallout New Vegas fan?~~ This means after you complete the final mission, the features and conversations unlocked as a result of the quest will not work properly yet. I'm going to try to finish this before anyone gets that far, but we're too far into spooky season to delay launch any longer. 🧛🏻🦇)

I went to scrap this multi-tool, and had a chuckle at the name.

I'm curious what little neat things you guys have found or adopted while playing.

Could be for base building, finding ships or multitools, or whatever.

What's your favorite?

Edit: I recently found out you can shut down Sentinels on a dissonant world, but the dissonant resonators stay up, so you can run around whacking all of them without retaliation. Lots of frolicking from group to group picking up loot from dead Sentinels and unarmed dissonant resonators.

It also completes all the Autophage "kill 8 sentinels" quests in one go if you've stacked up on those.

Am I the only one using a spreadsheet to play this game? I don't think I could play without one. First column is the base name, then planet, system, and the resource I'm mining there. Also other info like good trading systems.

Not the geomagnetic poles, the geographic ones!

Poles are nice for base-building. They have perpetual twilight, so you're always enjoying nice sunset/sunrise lighting. The polar region is defined by the sun never lowering beneath the horizon, which gives you quite a large area to tune your desired lighting, for example darker or brighter noon or midnight.

First up, we want to narrow our search for the fine tuning method I'll share later.

The easiest way is to fly out into space in such a way that you can get the system's star(s) into view of the planet. Drawing a straight line from the star to the day/night boundary on the planet so that they're roughly perpendicular will tell you where the equator is. Then you want to point your ship to the top or bottom of the planet and fly down.

Now we can do the fine tuning method. You want to be close enough to the planet that you have time of day in your camera controls. Set the time to noon and start flying in the direction of the shadows (i.e. away from the sun). There are two cues that tell you you're in the polar region: either the sun is visible at midnight, or the shadows will move dramatically whenever you sample your position with the camera method. The main cue telling you you're getting closer to the pole is that the sun is lower to the ground at noon.

The final layer of fine tuning is determining how bright you want your nights to be. Set the time to midnight and fly away from the sun for darker nights and brighter days. If you want more balance, hop on the Pilgrim and start following the sun until it's around midnight and the sun is at the height you want.

Happy base building!

I accidentally summoned my freighter at a weird angle, so from the ground it looked like it was crashing down to the planet. I thought it made a pretty cool shot though! Here's some other angles:

  1. Complete “The Purge,” the final story mission of the Artemis Path, the main campaign of No Man’s Sky.
  2. Own a Planetary Settlement to start the quest, “A Trace of Metal,” which involves creating a Sentinel Companion and upgrading your Minotaur mech.
  3. Warp to a desolate system.

It doesn’t not automatically trigger and more information is not thoroughly explained. Watch YouTube videos on the subject. You will need to destroy a Dissonance Resonator… on a dissonant planet to get the echo locator. You know the big walking machine with a tall purple winky. Also, you may need to kill 2-3 before the Echo Locator drops. After you get the locator you ‘should’ be able to use it on the same planet. However, if it doesn’t activate (not automatic… inventory press ‘E’) then find another dissonant system. Some have stated it has to be a pirate dissonant system but I don’t think that’s true.

Note that it is best to get a new multi-tool IMO as it has some good features not sure are possible on a normal multi tool. Also, you can get more than one Echo locator so if you don’t like that multi-tool then you can always keep on going to new camps.

Finally, one place I got way confused was after finding the interceptor, it requires a brain. You will get a similar item that says brain but isn’t the correct part. Press E on it and it will scan for a monolith station. This non standard MS will convert your item to the correct needed item. FYI, you must be in the interceptor to further the mission. You’ll need to do a number of things in it. If you have a freighter you can have multiple ships so don’t freak about losing your precious. The tech in the interceptor doesn’t seem good enough to keep long term, but it’s standard weapon is way more powerful that the standard ship weapon (upgrades notwithstanding). Good luck!

Every time I board my own freighter, all the navigation markers in the system disappear while I am looking at them. Those that are out of sight remain visible. My freighter is fully stocked with all stations and lots of decorative items, rooms and so forth. Rumour has it that this has something to do with the workstations and that they should be removed. Extremely annoying. Does anyone have a workaround while we wait for a fix?
