Late summer means the local singletrack is hopelessly overgrown. I had to stick to access roads and old doubletrack. It was still a beautiful day to be out, though!

I was chasing that slack head angle before it was cool apparently, not that I knew that was even a thing back then :D

My brakes were always my feet and I only recently got a saddle in these pictures as I rode without a saddle for around 4 years prior to this.

I wish I still had this bike but sadly it moved on a long time ago now.

Getting in as many rides as I can before it gets really shitty over the winter. Once it gets too wet it is gonna get a full strip down, service or replace everything and give it a fresh look via paint!

I see lots of videos where people do this on switchbacks and such. I'm working on some skills and have tried doing this on grass and haven't been very sucessful...

Hoping to do some research on tips if I figure out what it's called

I'm relatively new to MTB. I bought an REI Co-op DRT 1.1 hardtail about 2 years ago. It's decent but I ride with guys who have full-suspension Santa Cruz or Cannondale bikes and they can manage to get up more tricky terrain. I find myself walking my bike more than I'd like.

I've seen some 6 or 7 year old seemingly better bikes on FB marketplace for $600-800 like a Ghost Kato FS 7

Is that decent upgrade from a hardtail while on a budget? What's the best options for upgrades under $1000?

It's mostly rocky hilly terrain and some gravel narrow tracks in central Texas.

My trusty flat Five Tens are at the end of their life and I'm in need of new shoes. I ride SPD with my gravel bike and think my current clipless shoes for that are amazing.

That gets me to think maybe I should just ditch my flat pedals on mtb and get clipless. But I'm a little hesitant because of added risk of falling.

If you ride clipless on mtb or especially if you ride it both gravel and mtb, do you have any tips or thoughts to share?

After 50 pounds, 2k miles, and a countless smiles it’s time to upgrade from my Orbea Occam.

Since the rain schedule changed to Saturday I made it around one more time this week. Beat my moving time PR of 53:54 by 10 seconds for a new PR. I guess its progress even if it is only 10 seconds.

Description says it all. 3 years ago I hadn't hit a gap jump bigger than a bike length.

Hopefully I put on a good show
