I have pro on both and like both. Is there some criteria others have used in the past to pick their favorite? They seem so similar to me. Does one have a killer feature the other does not?

103

Check it out at lemmyphantom.com!

This is currently a reader app (no login functionality) but I would love any feedback from the community!

Some features include:

  • Dark/Light Mode
  • Various formats (card, narrow, masonry)
  • Themes
  • Accessibility (dyslexia font)
  • NSFW controls (blur, filter)
  • Privacy focused (not even Google Analytics)

I've been building this in my free time but feel free to discuss or provide feedback in the new Phantom community

I have tried both boost and connect, with both of these kind of working. Connect has been my favorite but it continues to be, glitchy unfortunately. Boost is great but it's hide red feature doesn't seem to work well.

Are there any other lemmy apps on Android with this feature, or anything similar to try out?

Hello everyone!

It's been some time since our last update. As the version number indicates, this is primarily a bugfix update; hence, it doesn’t bring the "big new feature" I had hoped to introduce. The most important change here is that this version of Eternity will be compatible with the upcoming Lemmy version 0.19.

It's worth noting that upon upgrading to this version, you may need to log out and then log back into your account, based on my experience.

For the next release, I want to address more of the common issues found in our bug tracker. So, there may be another minor update shortly, but I can't make any promises at the moment. I've also made some progress with multi-community support and I plan to introduce modding tools as well.

In the meantime, thank you so much for your continued support.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but are there any lemmy mobile apps that support mod functions?

I pass up a lot of good crossposting opportunities because I haven't seen this in any of the iOS apps yet. Anyone know of one that has it (other than the standard web page of course?). Thanks.

I host a Lemmy.world web UI at https://lemminator.netlify.app/ on Netlify's free tier. Due to intense usage, I got an e-mail warning me that 75% of my functions allowance has been depleted:

I assume that when this counter hits 100%, people who use it will be locked out until the bill cycle resets. Although instance admins can self-host Lemminator, it's still missing a few features like post creation and registration that admins might consider essential.

What do I do? Are there any other free Netlify-like services where I wouldn't run into this usage limit?

All the apps make it very difficult to create a post. You have to know what community you will be posting to, search for the community, click the three dots, click create post, click whether it’s a photo/link/text and then start posting.

Why not just have a Create Post button with the title field, url field, body text field, and a button to upload a photo and then a choose community button

Tesseract v1.2.8 (github.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by [email protected] to c/lemmyapps

About

Tesseract is a Lemmy UI that is designed to be sleek, responsive, mobile friendly and media-rich.

Feature Highlights

The following features are unique to Tesseract:

Full Media Support in Feed and Posts

  • Spotify
  • YouTube/Invidious/Piped
  • Soundcloud
  • Vimeo
  • Bandcamp
  • Odysee (as of 1.2.8.1)
  • odesli Song Link / Album Link (as of 1.2.8.1)

Community Browser / Enhanced Discovery

  • Browse the communties of other instances and seamlessly load and subscribe to them. No more of that obnoxious copy/paste, search, wait, search again, subscribe hokey-pokey dance.
  • Post and comment menus let you browse the communities of the originating instance

Code Syntax Highlighting

Code blocks and inline code can be syntax-highlighted.

Image/Media Proxying and Caching

Privacy conscious users have long requested media be proxied through Lemmy. While I can't add that to the API, I can add it to the UI. Additionally, since the media is already flowing through Tesseract, it made sense to optionally cache the proxied media for re-use.

  • Enhance user privacy, reduce bandwidth to other instances, and speed up serving content to your users.
  • Can cache any media proxied through it. Tesseract can act as a caching proxy for your instance as well as cache media originating on other instances as well as outside resources (Giphy, Catbox, Imgur, Yarn, etc).
  • Administrators must explicitly enable this module, and users must enable media proxying in their app settings.

Fediseer Integration

  • See any endorsements, hesitations, and censures given to instances you're interacting with.

Highlights

Check out [email protected] or [email protected] as seen through Tesseract.

Take a Test Drive

If you want to connect Tesseract to an instance of your choosing, we host a public instance at https://tesseract.dubvee.org. It loads to DubVee by default, but you can change the guest instance or login to any Lemmy server you want.

Additional Features

Designed for desktop and mobile.

Install as a PWA on either or just use it through the web.

Multiple Account Support

You can add multiple accounts and easily switch between them. Accounts can even be on different instances if the administrator chooses not to lock Tesseract to theirs.

Multiple Hosting Options

If you host your own Tesseract instance, you can use it as a frontend for any Lemmy instance. Instance admins can host Tesseract on a subdomain or even replace Lemmy-UI with it. You can even run it on localhost if you want, though image uploads will not work due to CORS.

Highly Configurable

  • User-configurable image/video sizes in feed and posts
  • Full Lemmy server config options.
  • Most aspects of the UI can be configured by the end user. Server admins can set default preferences via env vars.

Better Moderation Tools than Lemmy-UI

  • Can access moderation actions from the feed without having to click into the post as with Lemmy-UI
  • Local instance admins have full moderation control of the instance as with Lemmy-UI
  • Modlog support on both desktop and mobile.
  • Can simply click "reply with reason" when taking moderation actions to send the user a message with the removal details. Template is user-configurable.
  • Enhanced modlog filtering.
  • Community- and user-specific buttons that will pre-filter the modlog automatically.

This is a very small update, but hopefully it's helpful! As I mentioned in the last update, I'm a little tied up with other commitments right now, so I haven't had a chance to implement the other features on the to-do list. This one was requested the other day, and it was simple to add since I could reuse a lot of existing code.

❓ What is Instance Assistant?

If you're new to Instance Assistant, it is a browser extension with a collection of tools and features to simplify your browsing experience on Lemmy and Kbin. It is available on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge; you can also install it from the releases page on GitHub.

For a full list of features, please see the GitHub homepage: https://github.com/cynber/lemmy-instance-assistant

⭐ What's new in v1.2.6?

  • Redirect user profile pages: When you want to message a user and click on their profile, you might end up on a foreign instance. To message them, you need to modify the URL or copy/paste. Instead, you will now find a little button to jump you to your home instance.

💛 Also

Thank you for all the suggestions and feedback! Like I said before, I'm really happy to see that people are using the extension and finding it useful. Please continue to make suggestions and contribute your expertise.

Cheers :)

Photon v1.15.0 comes with Lemmy v0.19.0 support, and is backwards compatible with v0.18.0 instances.

  • feat: add v0.19.0 support

  • feat: add seasonal logo colors

    • I plan to add some colors on hover depending on the month. Since this month is spooky month, it's an orange to purple gradient!
  • design: make search buttons look much better

  • misc: fix some signup issues

Photon has had a lot of progress made recently. From a new design system to becoming a drop in replacement, changes are made constantly.

This is not everything that has changed, but there's a lot.

To get updates quickly, join [email protected]

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.xylight.dev/post/245558

I've added the following:

  • password resets
  • verify email routes
  • option to change password when logged in
  • a warning message when your session expires

Photon can now be used as a default UI with (hopefully) no issue!

However, Photon cannot setup a new instance currently. This only works on instances that have already been setup with lemmy-ui, you can swap it out.

v1.15.0 will add a UI to do this.

instance admins, a docker image and setup instructions are available here. It is recommended you set the PUBLIC_SSR_ENABLED env var to true to let search engines crawl the site.

Lots of updates were pushed today, here's the changes since v1.10.3:

v1.12.0

  • feat: multiple removal reply presets
    • you can now have multiple presets for removal replies/messages.

v1.11.2

  • feat: add voting animations
  • misc: add warning toast when trying to vote while not logged in

v1.11.1

  • feat: add a route indicator in the top left

v1.11.0

Yet another view type has been added: cozy

It is essentially just the card view, but without a background. I quite like it.

  • feat: made images slightly more round
  • feat: add lemmy version to site card
  • upgrade: mono-ui: 0.3.3 -> 0.3.5
  • feat: copy community id to clipboard when clicked
  • feat: only show comment form when you click "create comment"

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.xylight.dev/post/203455

I've tweaked the colors for light theme quite a lot. I think they look nice. It means I can make the background of buttons white, giving a clear separation.

  • Tweak light theme colors
  • Overhaul community page
  • Add Inter font
    • I kept the default as System UI. You can enable Inter from the settings.
  • Upgrade to Mono v0.3.2

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.xylight.dev/post/176453

What's new:

  • feat: Add ability to manage federated instances
    • You can even upload a CSV!
  • feat: Add markdown to post titles
    • Since this is a rare occurrence i didn't turn the title input into a markdown editor.
  • feat: Use notification date instead of submission date for inbox
  • feat: Expand images on click
    • I've made this an option since some people might dislike it.

Other stuff I haven't mentioned from previous updates:

  • fix: Subscribed text being cut off
  • change some wording
  • Add a back button and reload comments button to post pages
  • Add error handling to RelativeDate

Thanks for all your support on Photon! I'm still working on localization.

alexandrite.app - [email protected] - Github

Just a few things this time, the biggest is mod team management. You can now add and remove mods from the "..." menu on posts and comments. You can also find links to the modlog to see what actions have been taken against that user.

add mod button

You can also remove mods or leave the mod team of a community from inside the "Moderation" area of the sidebar (note: the "Modlog" link moved inside this section too as it's not useful to most people)

Alexandrite settings will now automatically update in every tab instantly, so if you change the theme in one tab, when you switch to another already open Alexandrite browser tab you'll notice it'll already be using your new theme.

When viewing reports, they will now be sorted by newest report first, instead of oldest post/comment first.

For the self hosters out there, Alexandrite should now have arm builds thanks to ismailkarsli on Github! (Thank you!) The image builds now take a little longer, and the build isn't quite done yet so you might have to wait a bit until it's available.

That's it for now. Next release will probably be Lemmy 0.19 support, and I believe I'll finally be able to add image uploading then too (it might be in the next release after 0.19 support).

It would be much more convenient to have a thread have all the comments that are on crossposts and threads with the same link. They could have a little indicator mentioning the title of the thread it's posted on with a link to the thread. This would also help people come across new communties.

It could look something like this

clicking on the link to the thread could open it within the app allowing you to then easily browse the community in case you want to subscribe to it

When was the first reddit third party app released?

How far do we have to go in terms of development?

If we want Lemmy to take all of reddit's traffic we need to have a much better ui expierience with more bells and whistles.

I played around a bit with sync on android. Is there any CLIENT for iOS with a similar level of feature richness?

Hi I understand on IPhone, we have Bean that support push notification. Do you know lemmy client on Android that support push notification?

Arctic v0.2.1 is now available for testing on TestFlight!

Sorry for the delay with this update, it took longer than I had originally planned. I’ve had a busy couple or weeks, and have not had as much time as usual to work on Arctic. Additionally this update was larger than past updates, with larger features and more commits than any of the previous updates. In the future I will try and keep the updates coming more frequently,

Notable new features

This update comes packed with some exciting new features. Arctic now has support for iPad layouts (split view, slide over, full screen). This is still a work in progress and will improve in future releases. Collapsible comment chains are finally supported, tap or swipe any comment to collapse it’s content and children. Mod tools have also joined the party! You can access mod actions when viewing content from any community you moderate. Just open the action menu for any post or comment for quick access to (ban user, remove content, speak as a mod, feature or lock a post). You can also review and resolve user reported content in the new Mod Zone accessible from the sidebar, and community action menu.

Mod tools and iPad support are still a work in progress and any feedback on theses features is more that welcome.

Less notable new features

Arctic now has Lemmy Explorer (lemmyverse.net) built in. This allows for browsing and searching thousands of instances and communities inside Arctic. Currently, you can access this through Lemmy Explorer in settings. However, I’m working on integrating lemmyverse databases directly in the Search tab, and in the Community browser to allow for better search results, and increase community discovery.

Media viewer action buttons are working now, not much to explain here. You can now vote, share, save, open in browser, etc directly from the media viewer.

Upcoming features

Better iPad support. I plan to add support for 3 column layout, and a context aware sidebar. I’m also working on adding support for multiple windows, so you can browse multiple accounts, or use mod tools while browsing etc. this may take some time and likely won’t be coming in the next release.

Mod tool improvements. Better UI support for moderation, currently the UI doesn’t properly update for all mod actions. Additional convenience actions for mods, such as speak as mod, and feature posts etc before submitting the post/comment.

Comments feed, view instance or community comments in a feed similar to the posts feed, this is to match the web UI.

Chat mode for comments. Disables hierarchical comments to view comments with absolute sorting. Additionally, child comments of deleted or removed comments are not shown.

Adaptive layout. Currently long usernames, or deep nested comments, etc cause some wonky UI, where elements will overlap. I’m working on adding better support in these cases to allow the UI to adapt.

Accessibility improvements. Voiceover should already be working fairly well, however there are a lot of areas for improvement. I’m working on going through the whole UI to ensure all elements are properly supported.

State synchronization. I know I’ve mentioned this before, and I haven’t gotten to this yet. I have a pretty good idea of. How I’m going to handle this, it’s going to take some time to implement though.

Customizable swipe actions. Adding support for user customizable swipe actions. This will also come with distance based triggers rather than the current drawer style swipe actions.

Until next time

As always, thanks to everyone for testing Arctic and providing feedback. We still have a fairly small community here, and I would like to increase engagement, so everyone feel free to post any feedback or suggestions here.
