This is another great ballad about the true story of the Battle of Blair Mountain. It's mentioned in the song, but this battle between workers and capitalists saw the first bombs ever dropped from planes on US soil.

Joe Glazer has done a cover of this song that will definitely get posted down the line, but that cover has a fantastic intro quoting a union organizer: "you don't dig Italian coal, you don't dig Slavic coal, and you don't dig Irish coal, you just dig coal! Let's all get together and make a union."

This is one of my favorites. Utah was a huge fan of this idea he called "the long memory". The long memory is the idea that as long as we know where our movement comes from, we'll have the knowledge to combat both new and old tactics meant to divide us. This song describes the true story of labor conditions and direct action in Spokane, Washington in the 1910 Free Speech Fight by the International Workers of the World.
