I made the criss cross top pattern a few years ago on my lk-150 knitting machine. I converted it to knit flat and match my gauge using knit picks cotlin.

The ribbing and cable are hand manipulated, which involves changing the orientation of stitches (purls to knits) and moving the individual stitches to different needles on the needle bed. It was pretty tricky to do the big 9x9 cable cross on the machine because it couldn't stretch the yarn across the needle distance. I ended up hand sewing shut the large holes on either side when I did the finishing.

I think it came out nice, but I don't really wear sleeveless tops. It just hangs out in my closet collecting dust. :)

Took way longer than it should have but happy it's finished, how it turned out, and in time for autumn! One skein, relatively easy intro to cables I guess, hard part was just remembering numbers.

Craggy Shore socks in CoBaSi. Non-wool sock yarn means handknit socks year round.

I love this theme idea, and I'm hoping to see this community grow!

I stopped knitting two years ago because one day it just didn’t bring me joy. Saw a sock posted this Wednesday and I was inspired again. I started this beanie two years ago for my friend and am happily finishing it this weekend. 💜

I had no idea what to knit so I asked some people on this community for some help in this thread. Someone suggested I knit for charity, and look up what the charities want for inspiration. Actually found something that the rest of you might want to know about, especially since it comes with patterns! They’re for the 7 x 9 inch squares you can donate to the charity. Here’s the link to the patterns on the charity’s website. Charity is Warm Up America! I have no affiliation with them besides what I mentioned in this post.

Mods, let me know if this is too promotional and I’ll take it down.

EDIT: link to patterns is now broken, here's an archive.org link to the same place

Hello my lovely yarn enthusiasts! It's time to get my embarrassing, over-enthusiastic moderator hat back on again, apologies in advance.

One thing I’d really love to do is encourage people to post more old projects to the community. Knitting is a slow craft, we don’t produce a constant stream of stuff, and I think livening things up by showing off our older bits and pieces is a fun plan! Plus there’s always something to learn from what others share, new patterns and yarns to find, and new techniques to hear about for the very first time.

No idea if anyone will go along with me on this, but here’s the plan:

  • The active theme will change every two weeks, starting tomorrow (Saturday 9th Sep).
  • Themes could be anything from "shawls" to "cotton yarn" to "new-to-you techniques" and basically whatever I can think of.
  • There’ll be a pinned post, plus themes will be shown in the sidebar too.

During those two weeks, posts about fully finished projects that fit the theme are highly encouraged! Title them like so to help me pick them out of the crowd:

[THEME] This is an example post title

At the end of the two weeks the theme project with the most upvotes will be added to the sidebar as some approximation of a prize 😄This will be kind of unscientific due to how vote federation works (or in some cases doesn’t), but I’ll try my best.

It’s just a bit of fun, and we’ll see how it goes.

Thoughts? Worries? Complaints? Suggestions for future themes or a better prize? All very welcome!

FAQ

Do the projects need to be old?

Nope they just need to be fully finished

What counts as “fully finished”?

Weave in your ends, slacker!

Can I still post my normal everyday knitting and questions and memes and stuff?

Yes of course, this is just a fun bonus activity

What if a project fits multiple themes?

Honestly, use your judgement. I’ll put a list of the next few upcoming themes in the community sidebar so you can decide where it fits best, or if you’ve not posted it in a while feel free to enter it again! Maybe include different photo angles or a new tip you’ve thought of since last time. I think we have a ways to go before the rate of new posts becomes spammy, at which time we’ll rethink.

Do projects that are only partially knitted still count?

As long as there’s some knitting somewhere in there, I for one want to see it!

Get those WIPs on display!

I'm so so SO close to finishing this sock, which is (unbelievably given how long it usually takes me), the second sock of the pair! So they'll be finished and ready to wear in no time.

Of course, it's still absolutely boiling here and I can't think of much worse than putting wool on my poor feet, but at least I'll be ready for when the weather turns.

This will be my first #FallFinishAlong FO as well, normally I join those things and utterly fail to finish anything so this is very unlike me. But long may it continue!

What are you working on this week?

This article shows great examples and goes over the process, which is very simple: pin the item into the desired shape, then use a hair dryer on the high setting, being careful not to burn the yarn.

Beware, this will change the drape of the fabric and the look/feel of your garment.

#FallFinishAlong 🍂 :trans_heart:

This is my main WIP and my number one FFA goal. A trans flag blanket (Ironically the pattern is called Lars and the Real Girl - trans humor is so fun). I need it finished before my son's top surgery date in Oct, but sooner is better!

(reminder to leave off the three groups if you reply!)

My projects for the #FallFinishAlong! Left to right: 2x2 rib hat, purely for knitting belt practice. Sleeves for a baby cardigan. #Sarkle jumper for my mum, lower hems on provisional cast on so I can make them *just so*, only she’s on the other side of the continent now and can’t try it on… Rainbow booties for a second baby. Heel turn and foot of a sock. #knitting @[email protected] @[email protected]

Hello new favorite community! I have a question about what to do when you’ve finished a project. There are so few completed projects in my house I’ve never really looked up what to do when you finish one. I’m self taught via YouTube and books. After casting off is there something you have to do to make something like a shawl look nice? The patterns don’t say. Things always have a crumpled up look after I’m done.

The perils of public bus knitting.

LOTS of bus travel for me today, so naturally I brought my sock project. Forgot I needed to frog the start of sock two and cast on again though. In public. Uhoh, pressure.

Well it is my pleasure to inform you that this morning I successfully remembered how to do a figure 8 cast on without looking up the instructions, for the first time ever 😎

I guess hardship leads to success, or something.

Hi all! I am back from holidays and ready to share my totally underwhelming craft progress.

This photo was not taken today, alas, but it was taken on *a* Wednesday as we lay on sun loungers in the shade (as befits pale nerds) and I took the opportunity of a rare lull in the constant activities to get some knitting done.

I miss cruise life already 😭

(excuse the swollen ankle lol I do not do well in heat)

I made a crochet garland for a friend's son and decided to use some of the leftover yarn for a matching beanie.

I based it off loosely from a pattern in spanish, but it's very simple. I cast off 90 stitches (88 for the square pattern + 2 as edge), then 6cms (or 12 rows) of 2x2 ribbing. For the squared pattern I alternated knit and purl stiches. After 5 stripes of squares I began decreasing and then closed the cap and sew.

The pattern used circular needles and I reeeeeally wanted to make it work as an approach to knitting in the round for cowls, shawls and what not but I just couldn't get it. After struggling a whole weekend and literally undoing/redoing the thing 20 times I said "eff this" and switched to straight needles.

I need a knitting in the round knitting for dummies :(

Cable stopper with metal insert on KnitPicks Reflections, as opposed to simple plastic stopper on KnitPro cable.
Doesn't it fill your chest with satisfaction?

On Saturday I finished this headband that I did for a friend, just in time to give to her when we met on Sunday. I used some leftover yarn and got juuuuuust enough to finish at 50cms long and sew

I had fun making this project, the rows are short enough I could memorize them and knit without the pattern at hand so it was a great project to carry around.

Wanted to knit a summer stop with some spare yarn. It's still missing some fabric at the decollete and I've just run out of yarn. Tried to substitute with a different yarn (the light one at the very top) but it's not quite working. Guess it's frogging time! 🐸

I knew I was forgetting something this morning when I left for work 😅 I'll add a comment later with a picture of what I'm currently working on because I don't bring my knitting to work, sadly. In the meantime, feel free to add to this thread with what is keeping you up past your bedtime this week 😉

Anyone else do this? You grab a ball or two of yarn, cast on some random number of stitches, and start knitting? I love doing this, not knowing the outcome. Sometimes it turns into a scarf, or a hat, or a cowl, or a mess that i unravel and wind back on the nøstepinne.

Hello knitters! Here's for another version of WIP Wednesday, feel free to reply to this thread with your own Work In Progress.

What project has kept you up past your bedtime this week? As for myself I decided to start a 'quick' project, a headband for a friend who loves red. Pattern is the Thicket Headband by Mirella Moments. I'm loving headbands for quick & easy projects and this is a fun twist to the usual cable design.

Yarn is something my mom had in her stash, it's was the only red-ish yarn I could find but since it was a little too thin for the pattern I decided to knit it double.

My cunning plan to cast on a new pair of socks last night ran into a bit of trouble.

Still, luckily I don't mind a spot of untangling and if anything, finagling this will reduce my stress levels a bit tonight.

Plus then I get to look forward to actually casting on, yay! 😅
