I love the email workflow: open GNUS, hit C-o on the email, and boom i have a buffer holding a patch that can be applied with git am!

What are the differences between this community and [email protected]?

In general i think this is such a niche area that having two communities is for it is a bit overkill?

These were a bit difficult to answer, cause i dont know exactly what youre after - precise examples such as given in question 1 would be helpful. I could be way off base on what you were asking about in your questions.

In general i think you might want to look into image based programming if you havent already (e.g. smalltalk systems, lisp machines, etc.) as many of these provide language server esq connections to their editor. Of note is interlisp-d with its structural editor, which if i remember right edits the source code data structures in memory.

Regarding Q1: this workflow has been implemented in various languages for a long time. The one i am most familiar with is the swank/slynk server for CL. If i remember right it opens up its own thread to process everything, and communicates on a specific port.

Regarding Q2: perhaps im misunderstanding or just forcing my own perceptions onto the question, but this seems to be more an issue of session management within the LSP client; assuming communication over a specific port, its more about the client figuring out which commands to send to which port.

Regarding Q3: im probably misunderstanding this one, because it seems like a duplicate of question 2 with some extra requirements

Regarding Q4: this can also be done. For loading from markup see literate programming (theres a CL system for loading systems from org files called literate-lisp). For loading from the internet and databases, im unsure what you mean; whether source code or byte code or machine code or what have you its all just ordered information, which can be grabbed from its storage location with the right tools (web client, db bindings, etc).

Hopefully all that was helpful :)

Until thats done, i think that could be done with an automoderator. E.g. iff a post title begins with [ONLYLOCAL] then trawl the comments every n minutes and remove all comments from nonlocal users. Maybe it would fall apart at scale? But im not sure. It would certainly be more performant as part of the software itself, but i do think its possible with an automod.

I dont think they defederated; i still see hexbear in the linked instances section. You can see it at the bottom of the page in the browser if you click the 'instances' link.

I never really considered that. Idk it just doesnt feel like harassment? Like i know how dumb that sounds; if it was someone else i would say yeah, its harassment, but since its me its somehow not harassment (i know, ive got some stellar logic at work in my brain😅).

But thank for framing it that way, i never considered it. I think i need to marinate in this framing for a bit.

Hey all, i need some advice. Theres a person i have to deal with on a regular basis that repeatedly misgenders me, and im having issues dealing with it. I would appreciate advice on how to approach and deal with this cause im at a loss.

So this person is themselves nonbinary, which makes this all the more difficult and frustrating cause they should know better (warning, small rant incoming). They are the first to call out others on their errors (in a rather intense way) but cannot handle being called out themselves, theyve even gotten upset when someone they volunteer with gets a compliment on their work because they think you should compliment everyone or no one (but theyre fine with being complimented individually when its them recieving the compliment). They engage in performative diversity (eg publicising and parading around "i included so-and-so queer person") and tokenize others and use their own identity as a shield (they cannot do anything wrong to queer people because theyre nonbinary and pansexual). They seem to reduce gender to presentation, which is shocking as theyre a feminine presenting nonbinary person who has been very clear that theyre not a girl.

Ive come out to them four times now. Im fucking done. And the sad part is, i dont think its malicious. I think they just literally dont give a shit. They go off about how being called she/her is so frustrating and traumatizing for them, but they misgender me fucking constantly. We just met up for the first time after the summer break (we volunteer in an education adjacent area) and my SO was constantly gendering me correctly and calling me by my name but still, they persist. Today was especially hard cause i was at that point in my cycle and have been really emotional today and yesterday.

To sum up, i need advice on how to deal with this situation. I am at a loss for how to get them to stop. I dont want to give up this volunteering because i really enjoy it, and its basically my only hobby/thing that gets me out of the house. But theyre making it impossible to enjoy. I have the assertiveness of a damp paper towel, and ive already tried talking to them (four fucking times!), so what else can i do?

Thanks for any and all insight, advice, and/or camraderie. Im sending this off into the ether before i head to sleep so ill respond come morning.

I feel like this is something where you, the admins, take priority. While i havent noticed much hate or spam from kbin.social (aside from random), if it is making enough impact that the admins dont have the resources (either time wise, emotion wise, or what have you) to do other admin things then i support you in defederating. Of course, i prefer to stay federated, but because you and the other admins and mods are doing the heavy lifting here i think your thoughts and feelings on this matter take priority.

"Exploratory" knitting? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

Anyone else do this? You grab a ball or two of yarn, cast on some random number of stitches, and start knitting? I love doing this, not knowing the outcome. Sometimes it turns into a scarf, or a hat, or a cowl, or a mess that i unravel and wind back on the nøstepinne.

Asos has stuff for tall folks. You can sort by waist/length. They also carry larger shoes. Im npt sure what a 15 is but they carry some stuff up into the mid 40s. I got a pair of 44 wide boots that fit well, though their not the most durable.

On the one hand, yeah theyre called communities, on the other hand, i think 'sublems/sublemmies' is a way cuter name :)

Honestly, good luck. (Parts of) western occultism is steeped in antisemitism and built on demonization of jews and appropriation of judaism & jewish culture. Its super disheartening to see what basically amounts to 'lies that got us killed' revered as great and amazing works. Especially the "jewish magician" bullshit.

To quote Gershom Scholem on hermetic qabalah (via Ezra Rose): "[...] the activities of the French and English occultists contributed nothing and only served to create considerable confusion between the teachings of the Kabbalah and own totally unrelated inventions, such as the alleged kabbalistic origins of the Tarot-cards. To this category of supreme charlatanism belong the many and widely read books of Eliphas Levi (actually Alphonse Louis Constant; 1810-1875), Papus (Gérard Encausse; 1868-1916), and Frater Perdurabo (Aleister Crowley; 1875-1946), all of whom had an infinitesimal knowledge of Kabbalah that did not prevent them from drawing freely on their imaginations instead."

I think its a good idea. Blåhaj-specific decisions should be blåhaj only. Perhaps have some sort of tag that can be added to a post that opens it up to all instances in case an issue is blåhaj specific but impacts other instances as well.

Im curious, is there any sort of automod functionality for lemmy? If so id imagine it would be easy to check the instance a user belongs to and if its not blåhaj respond with a generic message and remove the comment.

Edit: or perhaps turn it on its head and have a tag saying a post is for blåhaj internal discussion only, with the default being an open-for-all space?

Another edit: i found a bot¹ that fully implements the lemmy api, which ostensibly means it could be used as an automod. Its not server-side, so it has to operate as a normal user.

Honestly, i dont put much stock in this, since it only goes out one year. No girls i know, cis or trans, have developed anything more than an A cup after 1 year of puberty. The study is up front about only applying to the first year, so thats at least nice.

Im just bursting with joy rn, and wanted to share. I came out to my FIL, who ive known for 6 years. I was nervous of course, it could have gone poorly, but the first words out of his mouth after i told him were "congratulations", and it set the tone for the rest of the convo. My own father is a difficult man and this guy has been so wonderful to me, im just over the moon! I knew he wouldnt be a putz, but its nice to have it confirmed!

Anyway, its just happy happy times over here. Tomorrow is my MIL and BIL i come out to, and im hoping for similar reactions.

Heres a mushroom photo I took last autumn, while on a mushroom hunting walk.
