True to form, President-Elect Donald Trump has come out of the gates with some unexpected Cabinet picks, one of the more off-the-wall being Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth. A veteran of service in Cuba, Iraq and Afghanistan, Hegseth ran unsuccessfully for Senate in Minnesota and has a regular gig as a Fox News anchor.

TJDS guest hosts Russell Dobular and Keaton Weiss discuss Hegseth’s preturnaturally pro-Israel stances and past comments on the Ukraine conflict.

Key Points:

  1. Economic Impact: The strike highlights the interconnectedness of the economy; disruptions at ports can lead to widespread shortages affecting various industries. This showcases how essential dockworkers are to the supply chain.
  2. Wealth Disparity: The stark difference between corporate profits and workers’ wages underscores the growing income inequality in the U.S. This disparity fuels the need for unions to advocate for fair pay.
  3. Automation Concerns: Workers are concerned about job security with increasing automation. Their demands for protections highlight the need to balance technological advancement with labor rights.
  4. Union Power: The strike demonstrates the critical role of unions in negotiating better conditions for workers, emphasizing that collective action is necessary to challenge corporate power.
  5. Historical Context: This strike is the first major dockworker strike since 1977, indicating a significant moment in labor history and a call for renewed focus on workers’ rights.
  6. Public Perception: The media narrative often shifts blame onto workers during strikes, revealing societal biases against labor movements and the need for public education on workers’ rights.
  7. Solidarity Across Professions: The solidarity shown among dockworkers mirrors similar movements in other sectors, reinforcing the idea that all workers deserve fair treatment and compensation, echoing the sentiment that “an injury to one is an injury to all.”

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange spoke publicly on Tuesday for the first time since he was released in June from London’s Belmarsh prison. Assange addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in France about his 14-year legal saga after publishing evidence of U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Assange was freed after pleading guilty to a U.S. charge of obtaining and disclosing national security material. “I eventually chose freedom over unrealizable justice after being detained for years and facing a 175-year sentence with no effective remedy,” Assange said. “I am not free today because the system worked. I am free today, after years of incarceration, because I pled guilty to journalism.”

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how Julian Assange was punished for revealing the rot at the core of our alleged democracy and how the establishment seeks to punish anyone who challenges elite interests.

Key Points:

  1. Legal Accountability: Trump’s assertion for Pelosi’s prosecution reflects a broader public demand for accountability among lawmakers involved in potential insider trading. This highlights the need for stricter regulations.
  2. Stock Market Manipulation: The timing of stock trades by Paul Pelosi raises questions about the ethics and legality of trading based on non-public information, indicating systemic issues within Congress.
  3. Congressional Privilege: Members of Congress seem to benefit disproportionately from stock trading, suggesting a need for transparency and reform in how lawmakers handle financial interests.
  4. Media Coverage: The lack of extensive media attention to such allegations points to a bias in reporting, which can shape public perception and accountability.
  5. Historical Context: Insider trading by politicians has been a longstanding issue, as evidenced by past reports, illustrating an ongoing problem that has yet to be effectively addressed.
  6. Legislative Inaction: The repeal of the Stock Act indicates a reluctance among lawmakers to impose restrictions on their financial activities, undermining public trust in governance.
  7. Public Discourse: Trump’s off-the-cuff remarks serve as a catalyst for discussions on corruption and ethics in politics, highlighting the importance of public dialogue in addressing these issues.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib recently accused Michigan state attorney general Dana Nessel’s office of “bias” when Nessel decided to pursue charges against pro-Palestinian protesters that she had not pursued against individuals arrested for protesting against other issues. CNN hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash then spread the lie that Tlaib had said Nessel made the decision because she’s Jewish, something Tlaib never said.

Tapper and Bash then went on to decry the prevalence of antisemitism (“It’s everywhere”) before being forced to issue half-hearted “corrections.”

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has earned a much-deserved reputation for speaking his mind, frequently revealing truths about the inner workings of the American political system that everyone knows are true but few are willing to say out loud. Most recently he mentioned during a speech to an American Jewish organization that in office he happily did the bidding of his donors Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and even recognizing Israel’s control over the Golan Heights.

It’s a shame Trump just does his donors’ bidding like all other politicians, Jimmy says, but at least he’s up front about his participation in a corrupt system.

Protesters in New York have demanded accountability after police fired at a suspected fare-evader in a busy subway station, hitting a bystander in the head. The man, Gregory Delpeche, remains in the hospital in critical condition and has undergone cranial surgery, according to US media. Police said two officers shot at the suspected fare-evader on Sunday after he refused to comply with orders, muttered threats and drew a knife. A second bystander, another officer and the suspect also were injured.

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the trigger-happy NYPD officers who shot not only one of their own but also two innocent bystanders, all over a $2.90 fare evasion.

Over the past week, Israel has detonated thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies carried by Hezbollah members in a highly sophisticated attack that killed at least 39 people and wounded 3,000. Then came hundreds of air strikes throughout Lebanon since Monday that killed at least 558 people, including 94 women and 50 children, in the deadliest day for the country in decades. Hezbollah has responded in kind, with aerial attacks on Israeli targets in the West Bank, Northern Israel and even Tel Aviv.

Jimmy discusses the ongoing escalation which is now, despite what some are claiming, a full-on war between Israel and Hezbollah and where it ends is a very serious concern.

A whistleblower claiming to be a long-time journalist for ABC News has allegedly signed an affidavit making a variety of claims about his news organization colluding with Kamala Harris’s people to assist her prior to the debate against Donald Trump. Specifically, the whistleblower claims ABC agreed not to bring up certain verboten topics and shared question topics ahead of time while also agreeing to fact-check Trump on the fly during the debate.

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the debate, the whistleblower’s claims and how the two candidates performed.

Aircraft assembly workers walked off the job early Friday at Boeing factories in Washington, Oregon and California after union members voted overwhelmingly to reject a tentative contract that would have increased wages by 25% over four years. The strike by 33,000 machinists was expected to halt the manufacture of Boeing's best-selling airliners, and is yet another setback for a company already awash in financial losses and damage to its reputation.

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the ongoing problems Boeing executives have been responsible for during recent years and how workers have frequently had to bear the brunt of the consequences.

Taylor Swift made a much-ballyhooed endorsement of Kamala Harris immediately following the Trump-Harris presidential debate. And while the media went nuts touting the endorsement and how much it would help the Harris campaign, a new poll suggests otherwise. According to this poll, more voters were turned OFF by the endorsement and plan to vote for Trump than were inspired to vote for Harris as a result.

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the cultural and political impact of Taylor Swift.

Prominent rapper and actor Ice Cube recently posted a video directing people — in particular black people — not to just give up their vote without any expectation of getting something in return. The statement was clearly a tacit criticism of Democrats insisting that Americans vote blue just because Donald Trump is so terrible.

Jimmy and Due Dissidence hosts Keaton Weiss and Russell Dobular discuss why it’s such a difficult message for so many Democrats to hear that citizens should demand something in exchange for their vote.

Donald Trump has come out with the surprise announcement that he is supporting Amendment 3, a Florida ballot measure that will legalize marijuana use in the state. While most of his fellow Republicans in Florida still oppose the measure, the stance puts Trump to the left of the Harris/Walz campaign on this issue.

Jimmy and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the various ways Trump is outmaneuvering the Democrats to their left during this campaign.
