Super Earth High Command Brief

Issued at 2024-03-30 21:00 UTC

Faced with the choice of dedicating adequate troops to hold Draupnir from a direct Automaton assault, or to attempt the liberation of Ubanea to serve as a new planetary base of operations, our troops opted for the latter. However, the initial hours of indecision resulted in insufficient concentration of troops to achieve either objective. Draupnir initially held a reserve force representing just under 20% of all active Helldivers, which was a solid start, but insufficient to gain an advantage over the Automaton assault. As the event continued, they remained close, but could not sway enough Helldivers from other fronts to gain the numbers to actually turn the tide. As the hours grew shorter, eventually, they abandoned Draupnir's defense in favor of attempting to burn down Ubanea. But it was too little, too late.

This has resulted in the worst possible outcome for our forces. As Draupnir fell, Ubanea stood at 95% liberated and would have required another few hours to be completed. Had our forces decided earlier what to do, or alternatively, managed to sway more of the roughly 35% of Helldivers active on the Terminid front, then today would have been cause for celebration. But victories need to be earnt in order to be meaningful, and victory has not been earned this day. Our task is now to retake Draupnir to enable FTL lines to Ubanea before the Automatons can shore up defenses and repopulate their losses. This setback will prove to be significant, and may compromise the Major Order if Draupnir and Ubanea are not retaken quickly.

Another significant obstacle in our operations has been the ongoing support of expeditionary forces on Malevelon Creek. Long standing as a bastion of human endurance and a symbol of our resistance against the Automatons, Malevelon Creek remains locked in a stalemate with an average 25% of our forces committed to its defense and eventual liberation, though success on Draupnir, Ubanea, and eventually Tibit seems unlikely with such a large contingent diverted elsewhere...

Front Changes

Defence Campaign on Fori Prime has failed and Helldivers on Oshaune were forced to strategically fallback to Hellmire and Fori Prime to deal with the new infestation. The fascist hive mind deployed a spore outbreak on Estanu to stack their ongoing plot to push out liberty.

I would be interested in some useful tips to extract solo on higher difficulties.

So scenario; I was playing on Hard, all other players had left and despite this I felt like struggling past the main objectives on my lonesome. Quite difficult but I managed, however when it came time to extract I just couldn't manage it. Waves (bugs) just overwhelmed me and I couldn't even get back on the console.

Is there some trick to this?

Hey I was wondering which stratagem you tried out on a whim but ended up really liking? I've been switching it up especially since I read that EAT spam can mess up missions, as that was one of my go-tos.

For me it has to be the gatling barrage. It peppers a concentrated area and can hurt all enemies from what I've seen. I love using it for Breach suppression and yesterday I didn't see anyone shoot any rockets, so I swear it knocked down a dropshop on an elimination mission.

Its use case is definitely limited, but when that case is present those repeated explosions feel nice to see.

Dispatch from Super Earth High Command at 2024-02-30 01:00 UTC

With the long awaited liberation of Troost, Phase 1 of the Automaton recycling effort has successfully been completed. The Trigon sector has been under partial Automaton occupation ever since the socialist toasters first marched in there during the early parts of the Automaton surprise attack way back in mid February. Although the Helldivers initially voiced concerns about fighting the Automatons, they have regardless shown up in force, with well over 70% of all active Helldivers now pushing the metal menace back.

Phase 2 of the operation commenced earlier today with the new objective of decommissioning the Automaton factories located on Tibit. Helldivers were quick to react and lined up on Ubanea to open up Tibit for a direct assault. However, their optimistic plans have received complications as the Automatons have initiated an assault of Draupnir. This world has seen its fair share of back and forth over the course of this Galactic War, and it seems that Draupnir will need to stave off yet another assault. Should the Helldivers fail to hold Draupnir, they jeopardize the gains they have made upon Ubanea. Now it's up to the Helldivers to decide how to best react to this precarious situation.

While a committed and focused Helldiver force could easily push the incursion from Draupnir within a few hours, there is the additional choice of ignoring Draupnir to simply burn down Ubanea before the Draupnir defence fails. This would secure the planet and allow Helldiver forces to push to Tibit early, crippling the production that is fueling the Draupnir offensive. It's risky though; if that gamble fails, the odds of our forces recovering access to Ubanea in time to take down Tibit before the Major Order expires is slim...

Operation Swift Disassembly, Phase 1—Completed

The Automaton Comms Array on Troost has been decommissioned. Strangely, it appears to have been broadcasting outside the Galactic Frontier. Analysts are working to determine more.

However, we did discover a transmission containing blueprints for a new Automaton type: aerial gunships. With this advance warning, our hardworking factory laborers (all age 7 and over) have been instructed to accelerate production of our most effective anti-air weaponry.

New Major Order

Operation Swift Assembly, Phase II: Reduce Non-Sentient Combatant Production. Intel analysis have identified the planet Tibit as the most significant producer of illegal Automaton combatants. Liberating this planet would significantly impact the enemy's capacity to replenish decommissioned socialists. It would also limit further theft of the planet's natural resources from future generations of inarguably sentient humans.

Automaton Counterattack

Intercepted messages indicate bot plans for a significant push. Increased resistance on Automaton planets is anticipated. Socialist bot strike teams have landed on Draupnir, attempting to disrupt our liberation efforts on Obanea.

Front Changes

Defence Campaign on Oshaune has failed and Helldivers on Omicron were forced to strategically fallback to Oshaune to deal with the new infestation. The fascist hive mind deployed a spore outbreak on Fori Prime in an attempt to cut off freedom activities on Oshaune.

What does everyone think of the new weapons? I'm liking the Quasar against bots in particular because it can take out dropships and heavy enemies, though I'm still getting used to the windup time. I haven't tried the heavy machine gun much, but so far it seems fine, if somewhat ammo-hungry.

Hopefully I’ll wake up to 50 medals, tried to help the cause this evening, had a few ok games. Also had a game where all squad members bailed or disconnected, running solo against bots is stressful AF. I extracted but died as the pelican was arriving and couldn’t find the samples 🤦🏻‍♂️ then I did an Easy (level 31 on PS5) and got a network disconnect… decided that was enough HD2 for one night!

Random note: I avoid the site that won’t be named whenever I can, but I do find the player feedback/discussion to be helpful on that sub. Could we get more discussion style Lemmy posts going in this community? Get the communities thoughts on new weapons, builds, tactics or just appreciation for the game. I love the memes, I really do, this game is perfect meme fodder… but a stickied post to just shoot the shit about HD2 would be great!
