Welcome to Gyro Gaming community, where Players and Developers can share their passion for Gyro Controls in Video Games.

Preferred platform or controller of your choice, you're welcome to Discuss about gyro, Submit your Steam Input or JoyShockMapper Config, Share videos about Gyro Aiming, Informing us of new Gyro Features or post silly memes.

As we're slowly preparing stuffs for this Lemmy.world thingin in wake of the "blackout" on another website, I'm still learning the ropes of this alternative, but do expect this subreddit to get up and ready soon.

For now: please follow the same rules as the Reddit version of Gyro Gaming subreddit.

BUT, if you want get into action and learn how Gyroscopic Controls works, here's a list of videos I recommend you to watch:

AL2009man (hey, that me! I made that video.): How Gyroscopic/Motion Controls can improve the Controller

Jibb Smart: CS:GO with Gyro + Flick Stick on a DualShock 4 (JSM)

Nerrel: Motion Control and the Rejection of Progress

3DOF to 2D Conversion Style, also known as Gyro Space, is an option on converting from the Motion Sensor/Gyro's three degrees of freedom over to 2D output (i.e. which axes get used to output to mouse or joystick). As part of the New Gyro overhaul: Gyro Turning Axis has repurposed into a Gravity Vector-based Axis system that includes Local Space, Player Space and World Space.

If you happened to play games on Consoles (like in Fortnite, Splatoon, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, Deathloop and No Man's Sky): you most likely experienced it.

If you like to know more about Gyro Space: I'll highly recommend Jibb Smart's Player Space Gyro explanation

This is a list of Nintendo Switch games with gyro aiming or gyro pointing controls compiled from every online source I could find.

Links go to sources mentioning or explaining the controls and in most cases go to timestamped videos which demonstrate the menus or control schemes involved.

Please note that some titles have variable support for motion controls depending on the play mode and so they may not be available across TV Mode, Tabletop Mode, Handheld Mode, and across all controller modes such as for single Joy-Cons, dual Joy-Cons, Joy-Cons in charging grips, and Pro controllers. These details are not noted here due to excessive difficulty in researching game support.

*Also features motion controls in a release on Wii, Wii U, or 3DS. Note that other Nintendo releases may have different motion control schemes due to the use of IR sensing on Wii/Wii U.

**Also features gyro aiming in a release on PS4, PS5, or PSVita.

***Also features motion controls in a release on PC. Note that most native motion controls on PC require USB connected PS controllers.

Sources used for compiling and investigating games on this list include:

  • The Gyro Gaming Discord's #native-games channel.
  • The PCGW list of Switch games with motion controls, which at the time of writing has been updated with much the same information as this post but includes some unrelated motion control schemes and dubious listings that could not be confirmed.
  • SwitchUp on YouTube as their coverage of games has the richest and most consistent coverage of motion controls I have been able to find
  • The Nintendo eShop for correction of names used for the Switch versions of games.

EDIT: Other platform support notes corrected and Paladins removed as per comments elsewhere

EDIT2: Added a number of games and changed some citations courtesy of IcyXzavien and more, another notable addition is the brand new release Pikmin 4

Personally, my favorite is the gyro on button hold, bound to the aiming button, as Breath of the Wild originally did. I'm personally peeved about the always-on implementation on Splatoon though, because any slight tremor in your hand means your aim will suffer. (At least they had the decency of adding a dedicated recenter button.) And how do you go three games in a row not allowing the players to correct the vertical aim with the stick? What in the world is the rationale for that?

Moving with left touchpad. Clicking pad to dodge.

Gyro activated only when I touch the right touchpad, and modeshift set up on the right touchpad so I can switch between 5 weapons when I hold the left grip. Holding left grip also changes the XYAB buttons to the rest of the other weapons.

When left grip isn't held touchpad clicks have some XYAB and dpad functions binded to them. I click middle to melee, and other corner clicks to swap mods, etc.

So I always have movement controls, and only move away from camera when I select other weapons or items that aren't on my touchpad. And when I do that I hold left grip, which activates gyro so I can keep aiming.

When I did this I had gyro set to activate on touch. Since then I've gone to always on for this game.

I have a Switch, Steam Deck, PS4, and Steam Controller all with gyro controls. I have used gyro controls in a few games but every time I do it feels odd and I never quite get the hang of it. I keep hearing that gyro controls are really great for precision in shooters but I feel like I just can't quite get the hang of it.

I'm a long time PC and console gamer so it kind of frustrates me that I can't seem to get the hang of it. What are some recommendations for getting better at using gyro controls?
