Futurama

I've been going back and watching earlier seasons, which - I thought - had a smaller budget and less recognition. But after taking a closer look at the credits I realized there's a lot of celebrity heads that are voiced by the actual celebrities. The star trek episode actually had the full original cast - and those weren't bit parts! I get that the show's a social commentary, but wouldn't it have been easier to get sound alikes? Is there a story behind the show's giant special appearances list?

Currently reorganizing my library and now I am kinda confused.

I've just found this article about Futurama on The Independent, a UK newspaper. It comments on the changes in Futurama reflecting the changes in society in general.

I tried commenting on a post, but I was unable to because of a language error. My Lemmy profile is set to undefined because if it’s set English than I apparently will be missing some posts, so I think this community should be the same way.

Thoughts?

I went in pretty skeptical, but I have to say, it's good enough for me to feel comfortable saying it's actually more Futurama. There's a small hump to get over with the voice actors having aged, but unless you're an existing hardcore fan who's listening for it, I think Hermes is the only that sounds noticeably different, but I can get used to it.

I also feel like it's strangely anachronistic in referencing modern day trends and technology. Futurama began in a time before streaming and all of that existed, so hearing it reference these things sticks out like a sore thumb, but it's not like Futurama didn't already reference real life subjects outside of Sci Fi, it's just something I'll get used to as the novelty wears off and it settles in with the rest of the show in my mind.

Overall, not earth shatteringly good, but I enjoyed it, and I'll absolutely be on the hook to keep going as more episodes are released.
