Whatever you feel about Israel, Palestine, and the horrific events there in the last few weeks, it's sad to see disagreements erupt into violence all the way over here.

Probably a long shot, but I'll bet the victim would appreciate it if any witnesses came forward. From the article:

EPD asks anyone who may have tips regarding this incident to contact Officer Natalie Drago, [email protected]. Case 23-15722.

In South Eugene, there was simply too much cloud cover, so we couldn't see the eclipse. It just got darker for a few minutes.

The BOOM (discuss.tchncs.de)

My wife and I heard the boom a little before 9 this morning in the River Rd area. The cats freaked out and we searched the house thinking something heavy had fallen somewhere. Eventually we shrugged and moved on.

But I just opened my RSS reader and saw there are 2 threads on the subject back on the reddit. Sounds like it was heard all over the city and shook some windows in areas. Here are the links: first thread, second.

EUGENE, Ore. –Quick intervention by Eugene police and emergency medical personnel Thursday night prevented a man from hanging himself from a bridge, according to authorities.

The Eugene Police Department said officers responded to a 911 call at 7:17 p.m. on October 5 in which the caller reported a man was attempting to hang himself from a bridge at Norkenzie Road and Donovan Drive. A responding officer who observed the man actively attempting to hang himself ran across both lanes of Beltline Highway, up an embankment to the victim, and cut him down with a knife, police said.

Looks like Eugene is starting to get them. Been waiting for it, but it still surprised the heck out of me when it happened.

The one in Spanish popped up while I was writing this.

  • What is Eugene missing?
  • What are we spending money on what we shouldn't?
  • What are other areas spending their money on that we aren't?

There's a special election today to determine whether or not to recall Paul Holvey. Don't forget to get your ballots in! It's the only issue on the ballot, so voting should be super quick.

"In addition to improving safety at the 10 intersections where car, bike and pedestrian traffic crosses railroad tracks, the upgrades will allow train operators to forgo blowing the train horn when approaching the crossings, potentially resulting in a 70% decrease in the train horn noise in Eugene. Trains still will use short horn blasts around the switching yard and the Eugene Depot and have the discretion to sound the horn in emergency situations."

149

"A combination of favorable weather conditions and tremendous work put in by the fire teams has allowed us to lift the remaining evacuation notices related to the Lookout, Horse Creek and Pothole Fires today."

The event will be held June 21 to 30, 2024.
