A place for those that got both Autism and ADHD, those confirmed as one and are suspecting they got the other as well, and also everyone who is neither and just genuinely curious.

Since the combo comes with its own set of challenges, this shall be a place to ask for advice, vent, infodump about special interests and/or just vibe and meme.

Please be respectful. General niceness guidelines apply - formal rules will be added later if necessary.

In regards to medication and medical advice: Please take under consideration that this is only an online support community. Offered advice is always an expression of individual opinions or experiences and shall never be taken as substitute for a professional in-person assessment!

This is a SFW community. Sensitive topics are allowed, but must be properly labeled.

(Sorry, can't upload the diagram directly. I mean, I could, but then I could not have the link to the site in the title)

I found neurodivergentinsights to be helpful in general. And useful personally for ruling out other conditions that also overlap with Autism.

For me it depends on ambient temperature, which is sensorically acceptable.

Adding to that: Even being raised bilingual just means I can forget words in two languages simultaneously.

When I hear they can mask each other, I am thinking of this:

Or right now it is more like a) needing to shout meme content into the void, so it might attract other voices b) not wanting to make this sublemmy just about myself

86

...is that it's usually missing the point.

But following citations works great, if only you remembered where the thing you're looking for was mentioned...

I have no idea what's going on, but they are cute together.

I know the discourse... they're not perfect representation. But I still like them as supporting characters.

What's your favorite Autism or ADHD mascot?

This chart was especially helpful for me - for sorting my traits into categories, because I don't fit well into any single one. It explains how I was able to fly under the radar for over 30 years: by compensating each with the other two, at the cost of permanent stress and anxiety.

The extremely short version of my story is: Too good grades to be considered ADHD. Too much executive dysfunction to fulfill the expectations placed upon me for scoring high on intelligence tests. Too impulsive and thrillseeking to be considered Autistic.

Although posting memes can be considered a task, when you're the moderator, right?

Hi y'all.

I am Agamemnon (formerly _the_great). This is my first dive into Lemmy and even moderating in general. I have no idea if Lemmy will take off or where it will go and whether the failboat R will eddit itself out of history soon... But I want my comfort place and support anchor to continue existing in any case.

So, basically I'll be holding the door open for anyone (including the modteam over there) for when they decide they want to make the transition.

In the meantime, I'll just post a few memes... Or you may AMA.

(Insert appropriate letter ending here)
