When a great/interesting song crosses my path or pops back into my head and I feel like posting it, I always do a quick check to see if it has been posted before. In my head, I was sure that this had appeared previously…but it turns out it was this post by @[email protected].

This track could claim to be the official song of the Community, maybe.

If you like shoegaze and don't know this Singaporean band, you will probably like this. If you don't like 'gaze, then I can't help you. 😇

This song is a live version of the track that appeared on their 2022 album, remember a stranger.

A classic of Australian, early 90s, indie rock. This is from an 8 track mini album called Octopus. Seek out their album Penny Century(1991). It’s terrific.

I find the songs of Edinburgh troubadour, Hamish Hawk, to be witty, quirky and tuneful. He’s got some good tunes.

From what little I know of this band, having just discovered them, their sound varies quite a lot. Dipping into their YT channel has revealed quite a range of styles. I found more than a few songs that I thought were pretty good, in different ways.

As a bonus, Hitsujibungaku/羊文学 means “Sheep Literature”. Not a band name I would choose, but given it is, why not do a collab with Aardman and do a version of the Shaun the Sheep song?

I’ve dipped into the band’s back catalogue before and enjoy the odd song or two. Here’s one from the Physical Thrills album that I don’t mind.

Remaining one of my favourite nu-gaze bands. Here’s a nice vid of a song from FTH’s final album.

Many music fans will know of The Avalanches’ breakout, debut album Since I left You (2000). Fewer will know that they started out as more of a noise punk band, with elements of hip hop and electronic music nudging in. They were often compared to The Beastie Boys, which is probably why I started to notice them. The 2 tracks in this clip are from their EP El Producto (1998)

This live performance was on a Saturday morning TV show called Recovery, on ABC TV (Australia).

I was lucky enough to be at a show they played on New Year’s eve in ~~2000~~ 1998, ~~which was only a month after Since I left You was first released~~. It was so good.

If you get a chance, go check out this performance in the finals of the DMC World DJ Championship in ‘99. You might recognise the first record he plays, in particular. Dexta was in The Avalanches’ for a while.

Miki and her chums doing a cover of her own song that was originally recorded by Lush in the early 90s.

The other MB3 stuff sounds quite good.

That feeling when one of your favorite artists covers a song by another favorite.
