This is a 2024 remastered version with footage from the 1993 documentary Hype.

I only became aware of Seattle punk band, The Gits, because I was given a copy of the fundraising/tribute album Evil Stig to review for a low-level publication I was writing for. I can't remember anything that I wrote about it!

This was a few years after their untimely dissolution because of the gruesome murder of their lead singer, Mia Zapata.

More info on The Gits on Wikipedia.

So…the Šeško and Gyokeres goals were fairly good.

I saw the first goal and then end of the first half, including a couple of slip ups from the defence that happily didn't amount to anything. I missed a chunk of the first half, just after the goal, until I could properly pretend to be Croatian to get the stream working again. I assume gnashing of teeth may stem from that period. I would have to watch that back to know.

What I do know is that we're third on the CL table and still 2nd on the PL table. Scoring 3 open play goals is good too…despite all the well aired trials and travails.

Onwards.

Posting a Los Bitchos track led me to Franz Ferdinand's, Alex Kapranos saying that it sounds like, "William Onyeabor discovering cumbia

I first noticed Onyeabor, like most everyone, when a 2013 compilation of his music appeared. This was championed/admired by the likes of David Byrne, Money Mark, Damon Albarn, Pat Mahoney, Dev Hynes, Alexis Taylor, Charles Lloyd, Amadou and Mariam, Dan Snaith, Four Tet and Tune-Yards…as per his Wikipedia entry

I enjoy this song.

I enjoyed it, they have some catchy numbers. It was at a small/medium sized venue, 300 capacity. It was Serra's birthday so they had a cake on stage that all the band members took a bite out of without using their hands. Her mum, dad and brother must have come over to Melbourne for the gig; she's from Western Australia.

Sounds like a bit of a disjointed 1st half because of rotation, probably. Sounds like Mariona was the glue that made things stick after she came on. The only downer seems to be that Walti got subbed off with an injury, with Little coming on, just before half time.

I just caught the highlights. Top goal from KCC. And Mariona…excellent. Hope that they can put up a fight (and more) against Chelsea.

Just got back home from a Los Bitchos show. It was fun.

Yes, I saw a promo for a gig/festival that the DJ version was appearing at and I got excited thinking it was the band.

Latest song from Chicago’s Horsegirl. Album release imminent. This sounds very Flying Nun Records to me. I like it.

There is still nothing quite like getting a W over that lot.

Forthcoming new EP, The World's Fair

A music website I looked at today reminded me of this song. It's one of the mp3s that I somehow found on the web at the time…just before I discovered Napster. It was on the last album they released before breaking up.

I have never seen the MV for it. Although the Bowery Electric was from New York, the video looks like it was shot in London, with glimpses of the Bankside Power Station during its redevelopment into the Tate Modern gallery.

I enjoyed that more than Show Me Heaven 😉. Maria McKee does have a decent voice, as you say. YT also decided to play me Lone Justice's covers of Sweet Jane and Walk On The Wild Side.

Speaking of covers, someone has declared 5 Feb as International Covers Day. We should "celebrate" it here.

Yes, and the original resolution was something like this!

Correction. It was released in September 1994!

I just discovered this band from Tokyo, who unfortunately seem to have broken up in 2024.

This track is from a tape whose 6 tracks are split between letniy and LA’s Career Woman.

I was reminded of this video having just listened to a podcast about the effect of technology on the Australian alternative music scene in the 1990s.

If I remember correctly, Regina Spektor wrote this after watching the film High Fidelity. I think it's a great tune.
