Does anyone feel like they’re missing social cues that neurotypical people understand without being taught? I’m missing out on career opportunities because of it. Does any type of guide/rulebook exist to effectively mask?

I'm posting because I'm a bit bummed out I guess. I began the whole diagnosis process because I wanted clarity of wtf is going on with me. A clear no it's not ADHD would maybe even have been a more satisfying answer than this.

Apparently I either have ADHD and my high intelligence allows me to compensate so much it masks symptoms for the tests. They did two intelligence tests which came out way above average it seems. I hope this doesn't come off as bragging. It really isn't as much of a gift as it may seem.

Or I don't have ADHD but my cognitive function shows some similarities. And I'm also super smart. But somehow I can't put it to use when it comes to my life due to issues with emotional regulation and tolerance for frustration which I don't have much off.

How this affects my life is I can't focus or do things I don't find interesting at all. Same with things that don't offer anything new to me. Being intelligent means I understand and figure out new things super quickly. But that means I get bored quicker and then struggle to do the thing. So I hopped jobs, surprise everyone how crazy good I am at the job and what a fast learner I am and whatnot. Then I hop job to the next. It never amounts to anything. And I got burnout or boreout. Depression. All that fun stuff.

Buf They can't tell for sure which one it is by the metrics they use. Which just is so unsatisfying after it took to long.

The good news is the result still qualifies me for trying out meds should I decide to do so. Same for getting therapy paid for by insurance. It's nice to have options so I'm happy for that.

Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

I haven't had to use a mod action here yet and we're upwards of 800 subscribers. I just wanted to let you all know I appreciate you!

I was inspired by another post on here to sit down and automate some stuff. What apps have you used to automate things for you? Get specific what automations or workflows are you working on? And yes I just spent an hour automating things to avoid a different task.

I have a Trello and finally made a daily to do card for work. My reoccurring tasks (things I have to once a week or even every day) now have appropriate repeats set.

I downloaded buzzkill and set up some rules. Namely a certain group chat has a cool down, if my partner messages me it reminds me until I respond (though I'm going to have to retrain my brain not to automatically dismiss the notification). Notifications from my personal email are silenced until end of work day. My lightening tracker app (I work outside a decent bit) alarms when lightening is within five miles and just notifies me at ten miles.

I downloaded routinery and created a morning and end of day routine. Though I'm sick of this subscription bull. I wouldn't mind trying an app and if I like it paying full one time but the moment there is a subscription you can bet I'm refusing to go pro or upgrade.

I made a paper check list to review everyday for a work task that has multiple steps that I sometimes forget one of due to the loud noise, overwhelmed senses and time crunch that happens when doing said task. It's weird but I cant necessarily carry my phone or checklist at that part of work so maybe if I just memorize all the steps I will be better.

I have an nfc tag taped to the top of my washer that auto starts a timer when tapped.

The amount of comments and posts I have for being here only for 5 days is absurd!

How do I stop?

I should have gotten tested months ago already, but executive dysfunction and anxiety kept me from making the phone call. It's soooo expensive because of the way my insurance works (haven't met my deductible). Also, I have to abstain from cannabis and alcohol for thirty days.

I'm hoping this is a worthwhile investment, since I'm pretty sure I have ADHD. In fact, I'm pretty sure ADHD is the number one problem in my life right now.

Just wanted to share and get some encouragement and empathy about this process!

What should I say or not say to the therapist for the first time? Should I come out and say I think I have ADHD or should I avoid my own self-diagnosis and ask them to evaluate my habits on their own? Anything I should say or not say in a first chat? Anything that may be a red flag or green flag with a new therapist?

I have an unusual name so when I meet new people my brain focuses on their reaction to my name and how they pronounce it, so I completely zone out when they tell me their name. I might remember it for a short time but almost always I forgot their name if I don’t interact with them frequently.

I had created an ADHD community in my own instance, but I realized this one exists as well and has more subscribers. So I am converting mine to ADHD memes instead so as to not dilute the overall engagement.

No judgement? Do you use strategies or meds or both? I'm curious.

For me both. But without my meds I'm pretty useless.
