I don't really get it. Sure, the exposed prongs would be energized once you plugged one side in, but if you plugged the other side into a second outlet (assuming you didn't cross live/neutral), nothing would happen. (those two outlets were likely tied together anyway)

This is something that's come up recently with the quote about Fallout and capitalism. And it reinforces the idea of "death of the author", the idea that any work should be evaluated on the text alone, and any interpretation is valid so long as it can be backed up with the text. Furthermore, once a work is completed, the author's interpretation isn't given special consideration or weight.

To believe otherwise implies that a work by a person who's died is necessarily incomplete and cannot be properly interpreted or understood.

So when JK Rowling tweets that Dumbledore is gay, well that's just fan fiction.

A religious coworker complained about women jogging, I reminded him what Jesus said to do when your eyes cause you to sin.

I'm old enough to remember when Newsweek was credible and respected. I understand the Magazine business model is brutal, but these days you're more likely to run into someone who's owned Newsweek than someone who subscribes to it.

Besides being an insult the capacity and curiosity of the working class, your comment is anti-intellectual.

In that case I refer you to u/catloaf 's post. A machine cannot grock, not at any speed.

I wonder if you can challenge a citation in a traffic stop that didn't officially happen?

It's a better way to compare countries apples to apples. Two countries with similar economies may have drastic different tax policy.

Measuring it as you suggest is absolutely done and is helpful to research policy inside a country, but between countries, it'd be a poor metric.

I just want to remind everyone that capital won't wait until AI is "as good" as humans, just when it's minimally viable.

They didn't wait for self-checkout to be as good as a cashier; They didn't wait for chat-bots to be as good as human support; and they won't wait for AI to be as good as programmers.

"Identity theft" is bullshit. They didn't steal an identity, they stole credentials. But even though those credentials were created and maintained outside of our consent, control, and often contrary to our interests, somehow we're responsible when they get stolen.

Politics isn't a logical endeavor. All political positions are based on assumptions that are feelings based. Conservatives feel that hierarchy is important, leftest value equality.

Nobody prefers equality over hierarchy because they did the homework.

A person who wanted to make all of their decisions based on logic and reason would be paralyzed and incompetent.
