I like Plantain too! If you are on the lookout for free patterns (aren't we all?), the Core T-Shirt by Closet Core Patterns might also be something to look at. It's a boxy fit, though, so not really an alternative to the Plantain.

An expandable gauge for button placement!
Don't have it myself, but it has been in my wishlist forever...
Thank you all for the suggestions!
A first try on the body revealed the following: the tail is a nightmare to bag out and won't hold it's shape in the present state. It needs some kind of support (more than just batting) or to become broader (to accommodate more stuffing). Besides, being so curly, it is perhaps a tad too long to be safe for the baby...
I'll give it one more day of thought, but I might drop the plan altogether and buy something cute for her or make her an elephant instead.
Thank you! I just hope I can deliver - preferably before the baby goes to college.
What you say about the "hair" totally makes sense. I'll have to give it some more thought.
OK, now it worked. I think the file was just too large.
I didn't forget, it just didn't get uploaded. I'm trying to post it right now, but either it's going slowly, or somethingelse is wrong
Thin fabric is not a problem - people used to repair stockings with ladder darners. But they are best used if single threads snap, creating a ladder. If the fabric is overall weakened, it's probably not worth working with a ladder darner (a fidely business), since the original thread is unlikely to hold on it's own.
Whenever I darn socks (which is not very not often), I try to do it before they get a hole, and then I follow the yarn to dublicate stitches (does that make sense?) If there's already a hole, I use a ladder darner. Both methods are slower than using strait stitches, but so much more satisfying!
Hey there, I'm also here. I think it was your post over on reddit that gave me the last push to join the fediverse. Thank you for your effort!
PS: Have you also joined the other knitting communities?
I have another one: A mini iron to press seams open!
(...she wrote, sitting in front of her sewing machine, having sewed a seam that really needs to be pressed open before proceeding, and having spent the last five minutes trying to press said seam open with the handle of her shears, because the laziness is strong with this one, and who can be bothered to stand up to set up the ironing board?)
