@EarthShipTechIntern @puck freegeek got me started like 20ish years ago! No clue how it’s run now but back in the day it was a bunch of older guys running it that kept the good stuff donated for themselves.

@beatle @stoy expecting any modern os to support 20 year old hardware is silly.

@kadu @clemdemort I agree but I think every Linux user goes through the “all bloat is evil!” phase and sadly they are some of the loudest voices in the community.

@Dyskolos @ValueSubtracted I tried 3 times to get into it and I couldn’t. Today I forced it and it was at the end of episode 9 when I said “ok, this is a good show.” That much work just to start liking a show isn’t for everyone but after finishing the first season I think it’s worth it. I think the second is set up to be really good and I’m excited for it. I didn’t like lower decks or enterprise at first either.

@Lifecoach5000 @Altomes just a heads up, if you add something and plex doesn’t see it, it’s permissions. It’s always permissions. I’ve been using Linux and plex for years and I always forget permissions. Or I used to before I wrote a script to fix it before I realize I forgot it.

@manapropos @LeFantome love it when d-bags make these kinds of comments. Now I get to keep my mute list happy by feeding it another name. You know, Linux users get a bad rap because of snark like this.

@lemann @craigevil we’re up to bookworm, a minor character from Toy Story 3.

@eochaid everything you said can be applied to an OS. I’m a tool guy and they are far from solved. There is brand loyalty, wiha, wera, knipex, etc. There are no manuals (what? Maybe a pic or two), and you can absolutely use them wrong. The only difference is you know how to use a screwdriver. A tool is a tool, you just think one is magic because you refuse to learn how they work.

@eochaid @OsrsNeedsF2P yeah… I’m sorry but that’s like saying all screwdrivers suck. If you don’t take the time to learn how to use a tool you will always have a negative experience using said tool. You are never going to find an advanced technology that’s been dumbed down to the point where you can’t break it.

@hhkk9977 Currently it’s a trade off, AMDs are a better bang for your buck but they run hotter.

@bulbasaur “the study of how to arrange reproduction within a human population to increase the occurrence of heritable characteristics regarded as desirable.” Very different from augmenting oneself with current tech, like vaccination.

@Fubarberry @murkom noip.com has a free service I’ve used a bunch. Just run an app at home and select a domain. Some routers support the service too.
