I honestly disagree with that statement. The sane people left need to know what the insane are planning and capable of. I'd rather be aware that the Nazis are coming for me than just be overrun and silenced.
There is a proverbial saying in German (I am from Austria - then-export-country of Hitler) which is "Wehret den Anfängen", which translates to "Ward off the beginnings". And I fully believe that is what a decent society should do when it comes to Nazis. And the press is needed for that.
