The implementation details matter less than how it affects the culture.

By the way, if you want to learn about free software as a political movement, you should check into the history of the GNU project.

Nice! But Usenet is almost dead now. 30 years ago it was like Reddit without advertising and without Spez :).

I think you're doing the right thing having your own site. Lemmy has its attractions but is disappointing in some ways.

In git terms, it sounds like the Saudi delegate added some commits to HEAD. But if they really used git, that wouldn't have affected the release branch.

It's great to see you here, but you should have been around for Usenet. :)

Not gonna suggest github because you know Microsoft, but you get the idea.

Interesting, thanks. I hadn't even thought about Wayland. I've been using MATE and it runs X by default. I wonder if I can change that. I've never used Wayland and don't know much about it.

I've never had trouble using a USB keyboard with X. I don't think X realizes there are two keyboards. Bluetooth might be different.

Person is doing worthwhile things but has way too much confidence in the fediverse. Welcome to Lemmy though, if the author makes it here.

Old man yells at cloud storage. No, never get any type of "lifetime" online service. It will bite you. Better just get normal storage. Those aren't even good prices. I'm quite happy with hetzner storage box at about $2/TB/mo.

I'm pretty disappointed with the recent "itsfoss" posts in general. They just seem like typical consumer schlock.

Slightly disconcerting that RPI is doing it's own branded line of sd cards, nvme SSDs, and now USB hubs. I hope they don't eventually turn into Apple.
