looking up tomoe river after seeing yours and others’ comments, it looks like they’re discontinued :-( i will have to pick some up on ebay or etsy though, since so many people like it!

reddit refugee here, had been a 12+ year user that started on f7u12 and rage comics, growing up as reddit did… and i, like almost everyone else here, do not recognize it for what it used to be.

anyway! i’m not exactly midwest, as i’m from tennessee, but i am a huge fan of midwest emo (am football, mom jeans, pinegrove, desaparecidos) and i commiserate with the best of them.

i’m into photography, woodworking, building guitars, architecture, design, bicycling, and basketball. so far lemmy has been a huge breath of fresh air!

i’ve always cleaned my pens by using warm water (not hot) and running it through until there’s no ink in the nib, barrel, anywhere. then i place on a lint free cloth or microfiber towel and let them air dry. if you fill too soon, you’ll get a watery mess.

also as i’m sure you know, you’ll want to put down something because ink will get everywhere when you’re cleaning and it’s super hard to get off.

(if you use platinum carbon like me, good luck removing it from anything, haha)

i have changed oil in vehicles probably 30 times at this point. last year for some dumbass reason i decided to start using a torque wrench to tighten.

looking at the specs for my foreign, i did not look at the correct column on the page for ft/lbs or Nm… did not double check… and ended up fucking stripping the bolt threads on the oil pan!!!!!!!!

had a hell of a time removing the bolt, but there were enough good threads that i could drill out what i cross threaded and still attach the bolt… i did not have to have an oil pan replacement… and no drips or leaks… i count myself extremely, extremely stupid and lucky.

the greatest risk is ink drying inside the bladder and nib and causing difficulty to clean. i had a noodler’s ahab that i loved and after leaving ink in it for a couple weeks, it was sealed. i tried cleaning it out but only damaged parts in the process. (this is not a fault of the ahab- it is a great pen, but requires normal maintenance).

can’t speak to your specific pen, but i know that i either run my pens dry by using them within a week, or i completely clean them out and let them sit. there’s really not any in between if you want to keep everything working correctly.

sorry to hear about your mother. i’m sure it’s nice to write and remember her.

i am very picky about my paper, and i have absolutely loved leuchtturm1917’s notebooks lately.

what paper y’all putting ink on these days?

no markings on the nib, pen clip, or any of the accent pieces?

yo that’s dope, carrying the board back and forth to work, haha. i can really bang on the keyboard too so i’ll look at the drop entry!

great response! i think i may continue with cleaning up those keyboards and see what i’m working with. i’ve done some electronics soldering in my time (and built/set up guitar electronics quite a few times) so i’m sure it wouldn’t be too much of a step up if i had to do that.

on another note, any recommendations on what to clean the plastic with? they are quite yellow on the cases and space bar funny enough, and i’d love to see them back to their glory!

i have a few apple extended keyboard ii that are in good working shape. i have considered purchasing an adapter to use them with usb, because i can remember absolutely loving to use these keyboards.

just happened upon the community, and figured i’d ask. is it more worth it to get something to adapt one of these keyboards?

for reference, at home i have more than enough space on my desk for a keyboard. at work, i wouldn’t mind finding a nice mechanical keyboard, as i type often and a bad keyboard infuriates me to no end, haha.
