My voices say that de-fed is best and I worry that not everyone will perceive the terrible consequences of not doing so. and yay for star trek :-)

This is so Elon playbook , send in the lawyers and see what happens. TBH these games are irreverent to normal people, lets de-fed from any corporate instance and just build a better community

[–] phil299 97 points 2 years ago (3 children)

My gut tells me we should defed all corporate instances as a matter of policy. Our uniqueness is at jeopardy , think of threads like the borg.

I guess IF the fediverse decided universally not to fed and moved the code away from threads adding features say meta did not want, then they would be seen as de-facto gatekeeper again.

Decent instance? Not sure that is the right question as all channels on any instance are equally visible. So from a viewer point of view any instance with good uptime and open registrations that you feel confident will have longevity will do.

If you are uploading than all the above and decent upload quotas are the key imo.

Activity levels are not really the point I think

cheers finally worked it out, what caught me out was if I clicked the search icon nothing happened , but if I hit the return key on my keyboard, bingo, I guess my mastodon instance is a tad buggy, What i like is because I know people are working hard to get things working and in many cases these instances are just so young I am more than happy to work on it with a community spirit and tolerance.

Here

BTW this is a peertube link , here comes the fediverse youtube alternative

Quite a rare title especially in reasonable condition like this one. Unlikely you could publish such a book today.

Peertube platform list here

You have to open a account to :-

Comment videos
Subscribe to channels to be notified of new videos
Have access to your watch history
Create your channel to publish videos

Although you should be able to follow specific platforms via something like mastodon

I really do not think that they are aiming to join the fediverse , the subscription model really suggests they want your money and have broadcast aspirations. I also think that the offerings are fairly low level atm of course that might change but I doubt it.

This by no means a expert explanation. But as I understand it peertube and owncast are video sharing sites that operate much like lemmy but for video. So people start platforms ( like a instance on lemmy ) and then other people can join said platform and watch the videos , however like lemmy you can watch videos across all platforms ( I assume much like lemmy as long as the platform admins allow ). Both peertube and owncast say they are Fediverse projects and as such it should be possible to access the videos on other fediverse enabled applications although not sure how well this in implemented.

info

peertube specific info

I have to say as youtube alternatives I think they fit the bill best as it is free to watch , open source and quite an elegant solution , clearly early days but none the worse for that imo

Under the hood I believe it is a distributed load system ( a bit like the BBC's Iplayer ) but that is beyond my pay grade.

EDIT

BTW peertube = youtube alterative owncast = twitch alternative tilvids = peertube platform

Got it , see my post on the book.

Ok this could be a very rare text, not sure but it appears to be a defense of Socrates against the accusation of homosexuality by Johann Mathias Gesner (1691-1761) Its importance can be ascertained as the Latin text is online on the University of Göttingen website. I can not find any examples for sale currently but I have not done an exhaustive search. As for value you would need to do a auction record search , but world cat only shows 17 antiquarian volumes in various institutions so it is likely a library may want to acquire this book so that might really pump the value. This was a very good find , well done.

Could I ask a favour (self.asklemmy)

Been realizing that people from other instances can not find my community unless someone has searched for it with reference to this post https://lemmy.world/comment/1692 So could I ask anyone from instances other than lemmy.world and feddit uk to search for this community in the community search " [email protected] " once that is done give it a minute or two and then search for " new music " and hopefully it should come up

Edit of course if you mod other communities and want to hijack this post for your community feel free

I was wondering how the pre-reddit lemmy members feel about the influx of ex-reddit. Have things got worst or better? Is there any lemmy etiquette that we are missing?
