This seems to be new frontier for a lot of users. Lemmy is like Reddit in a lot of ways but so much different in so many more ways. As new users, we're pretty much guinea pigs (or lemmings, I guess) and I imagine there's going to be a lot of this in the weeks to come.

Would have been nice to get a little more experience under my feet before having to deal with this

This is experience! If Lemmy works out, we'll be able to say we helped pave the way!

I can completely understand why they did but it really sucks that it had to happen. Hopefully, as the Fediverse grows, better tools are made available so instances don't need to defederate from each other.

With that said, I think it's a pretty amazing concept that they can. Terrible, sure, but nonetheless amazing.

I also wasn't aware that other instances vetted their users? This was the first one I picked. Is there a plan to address the issues beehaw brought up?

Thanks! The people at r/sffpc were super helpful, I'm hoping that carries over here. I've never moderated a community before, so I'm happy to see it grow. I'll probably start a thread for resources eventually, so keep an eye out if you want advice for parts and cases!

I'm trying to get a SFFPC community going, if you want to check it out! https://sh.itjust.works/c/sffpc Just heads up that there's not much happening right now, but I'm hoping that changes soon!

I was out here trying to get a SFFPC community going and I find StalinsMoustache shitting on it lol. If you want to share your build or get advice, you should check it out: https://sh.itjust.works/c/sffpc

When I first started getting into SFF cases, I was in a rush to get the most affordable thing I could find, which ended up being the K39 + 500W Flex ATX PSU combo off Superbuy.

This ugly little white case showed up and I immediately disliked it. Since then, I've spray painted everything black, printed new grills and made a Thor Zone Borg style stand (since it didn't come with feet)

The graphics card fan crapped out on me a while ago as well, so I reprinted the shroud and zip-tied in the IS-60 fan that's controlled with Fan Control V159.

I've been waiting for the Superbuy branded PSU to crap out but it's holding strong after 2 years. If I had to do it again, I'd probably go with a Velka 3 or Densium 4. It's not the prettiest machine but I've put a lot of work into it to make it something I'm happy to have on my desk.

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i9-9900K
  • Cooler: ID-Cooling IS-60, swapped fan for a Noctua
  • GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1050Ti, custom shroud with IS-60 cooling fan
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • PSU: Superbuy 500W Flex

Could you possibly use an angle adaptor or would that use too much space?

Looking forward to sharing pics of the finished product assembled with the case. I really just wanted to have at least one post in the community. Also, don't mind the scrapped up print bed. ๐Ÿ˜…

As the title says, welcome to SFFPC for Lemmy! Hosted on the sh.itjust.works instance, I'm hoping that this fills a small void by those who liked seeing, discussing, and sharing the small / medium builds that we see in the SFFPC community. Please feel free to post your builds and ask your questions!
