Many many things, but one I've not seen touched on much is how LONG the lead up is.

Here, quite often they announce an election and then a few weeks later we have the election.

It doesn't really make any sense to drag it out, that's more than enough time to learn about the candidates, the current state of the various parties and their manifestos, and time for debates and discussions and such before polling day.

The idea that an election run up can go on for months and months and months feels silly/wasteful.

The difference I suspect is in the ease of which we have access to local polling stations within walking distance of our homes, and how short the queues are, if there are queues at all.

In the US these problems can be magnified, especially if everybody is trying to pile in to the stations (or just reach them) within the one hour they have before their 12 hour shift, etc.

I'm sorry, but at 15 you're old enough to know that stabbing a stranger to death is wrong.

Yes? What do you think they're implying, that we should try to rehabilitate criminals... but only if they're still young?

I think (and forgive me if I'm wrong) they're essentially saying that without a rehabilitory justice system, we're just locking people up for life and creating a net drain on society. Financially, culturally... it's a morale drain on our nation, even.

Not to mention that as a society we're abandoning a person who, through a justice system built on rehabilitation and not some ye oldie Catholic concept of creating a punishing Hell on Earth, could actually flourish one day, adding to our society instead of taking from it.

A prison system designed to simply incarcerate, punish and torture those it touches will never offer anywhere near the same benefits to us as one that is designed to attempt to rehabilitate.

Not everybody can be rehabilitated, of course, but that's like saying we shouldn't try to treat cancer, because not everybody can be cured.

What if I told you to take a good long look at the entire republican party, and ask you to give me a single compelling arguement that these people are actually people?

I thought they were the ones dehumanising their opponents?

People don't need to provide a compelling argument that they're people, even if you don't like them.

I understand that the larger numbers are the totals from 2022 to now, and the smaller numbers are from a smaller recent period, but is there any indication what this more recent period is? I'm guessing it's a week, or a month?

Thanks :-)

Man, what a shitty dig to make about a tragedy of death that just happened.

...Maybe Ho could wait until they're done clearing the bodies and rubble before using the incident as a platform for his opinions?

I don't care if he and I share some agreement on cars and their overuse within our cities, that is in incredibly poor taste.
