Federation takes almost no server load. It'd all the people loading images and comment threads that cause the server to slow down. Yes federation can break, especially due to unexpected code changes, but typically using a federated, lower user count site helps over all.

Reporter asks

We’ve talked about this a few months ago, and you told me then you thought Biden would win Pennsylvania and win the overall election. But things have gotten worse for him since. Trump is now ahead in many polls.

He responds

But that doesn’t really matter. There’s a whole lifetime in politics between now and next November as well. I’m not worried about that. And I’m very vocal about this, too, while there are Democrats that are being very critical about the president. ... I’ll use this [as] another opportunity to tell James Carville to shut the fuck up. Like I said, my man hasn’t been relevant since grunge was a thing. And I don’t know why he believes it’s helpful to say these kinds of things about an incredibly difficult circumstance with an incredibly strong and decent and excellent president. I’ll never understand that

I liked this comment

I don't think you understand how a federated system works based on that comment.

They do a lot to be transparent and monitor availability.

There is an big usage jump before Xmas, I assume because of the recent lemmy version upgrade that many admins are saying uses more resources.

Give em some time, I'm sure there will be a patch soon.

Best part of the fediverse is you can just use a less popular server until things calm down.

Nothing new for them. Anyone that buys tickets from southwest should expect this by now.

I would venture a guess it's people's phone backups, all those fireworks and concert videos filmed and uploaded to cloud to never be watched again.

Try using setfacl to set extended attributes on the homedirs to give root read access.

Yeah, it's a struggle with there are a dozen zero days a year for multiple brands/applications. I have at least 4 people always doing some sort of upgrade or patch being reported by infosec.

I recently downloaded the best quality rip I could find, and then deleted the intro completely. Made enterprise so much better.

The 305s are too big with this offset so I've got to figure out ways to reduce rear end squat on big bumps. Next up is Adjustable shocks to reduce the compression stroke and a sway bar since the Stingray didn't come with one in the rear.

Some of the key findings included in this report include:

Austin’s population is relatively young but aging rapidly.
Population growth overall and among children took place along the edges of the city, whereas the older population grew fastest in West Austin.
People 65 and older are the fastest growing age group in Austin, made up mostly of White older population, but the Asian older population grew the fastest.
East Austin has increasing shares of White older adults and decreasing shares of older Black and Hispanic people.
Although the child population grew between 2010 and 2020, children now make up a smaller share of the total population.
Growth in the child population was driven mostly by Asian children, in contrast with a decline among Black and Latino children.
The age distribution in Austin is heavily weighted by people of working age, especially those in their 20s and 30s.
We have a strong ratio of workers to children and older adults, giving Austin a strong economic stance.

He told police he believed the woman had cut him off in traffic and although he acknowledged their vehicles had collided, he "did not admit the collisions were intentional," according to the document. Lovell told police there were two handguns in his vehicle, but he said "he did not know why he would have shot his gun and could not recall any part of the shooting incident," according to the affidavit.

Looks like they broke into a vehicle next to a Tesla based on the pictures of the suspects.

How would you like a job that pays roughly $30,000 a month and requires no documented work output? That's the kind of gig two longtime associates of Interim City Manager Jesús Garza and Mayor Kirk Watson landed this year, without competition from other candidates. From February to July, each was paid roughly $150,000 in taxpayer dollars to provide vaguely defined consulting services through subcontracts that were not approved by City Council – even though that amount of money usually requires Council authorization. The two consultants – Laura Huffman and Joe Canales – are on track to end the year as two of the highest-paid workers at City Hall (though as outside consultants, they don't get benefits offered to full-time employees, such as health care). At the rate the pair has been billing, each could make more than $420,000 by year's end – an annualized rate that exceeds that paid to Garza ($350,000) and approaches that paid to Austin Energy General Manager Robert Kahn ($475,009), the city's two highest-paid full-time workers.

“My account was showing the water usage for my neighbor,” she said. Austin Water has so far, installed about 168,000 of the 250,000 meters. The company expects to be done by 2025.
KXAN Investigates wanted to know how many other customers have complained about suspected inaccurate readings from the new meters. But we didn’t get the records because an Austin Water spokeswoman said the company doesn’t track that information.
