I purchased a xps15 a few years ago. It had to go back twice in a year. Once for a fan that died, then again for a fan making bad noise when under load. Stopped using it about 18 months after getting it after the battery stopped working completely out of the blue.

Yup. I tried selling on Amazon and ended up back on ebay because perfectly working stuff was being returned and I had to eat the cost of shipping both ways.

Done. Won't matter the downvote brigade already sided with the self proclaimed firefighter.

I learned this from R/C cars many years ago when Lipo came put. It's a tried and true method that many people in the hobby use to make the battery safe for transport to the recycling facilities.

There are some others, bhphoto being a good one, but many of the online retailers do not have free shipping and many also have return fees. That's where Amazon saw a way to steal customers away.

Most people want the question free returns, that's really the thing keeping amazon afloat compared to say eBay or aliexpress. Sure you can get the stuff directly from China in most cases, but you have to wait for a month for it to arrive and hope you don't need to return it.

As for local stores, they always cost more because of the cost of doing business, which is why Amazon is cheaper and faster to deliver.

All that said, as long as you can wait a few days, there is no need to pay for Prime, you can still get all the stuff shipped for free if you just wait until you have 45 bucks of stuff to buy.

Yet rats are bred by the thousands for medical research every day, but a fake scene should he stopped!

0.19.1 has a problem that causes higher than expected server load, as illustrated in my first post showing their utilization graphs.

As for a few months ago, "someone" was DDoSing lemmy.world almost constantly but i guess they ran out of money or got bored.

Exposing your internal devices to the internet is not suggested unless you know how to secure it behind a reverse proxy.

We just continue to see these repeat problems," said Chap Ambrose, who lives next to The Boring Company. "Unfortunately, yeah, not a little effort to sort of make sure they don't happen again." Ambrose has been following the citations and complaints that have been piling up with the state and county since 2022. According to TCEQ's website, enforcement action is only done for "serious or continuing violations."

The school calendar limits what teachers can do to reach out to their own lawmakers, but they're still planning on having their voices heard. Zarifis says, “The governor so heartlessly calls a special session while teachers are teaching, will not stop us from showing up. We will be there, teachers will be there. We will be lobbying our elected officials.”

It's a reddit classic... plus we haven't seen rain during the morning commute in awhile.

Hope everyone got to enjoy the sound of rain and thunder last night, always makes me sleep better.

Have a great day Austin

Police said they do not have much information about the suspect. However, that person may have driven a gray, four-door sedan. Detectives are hoping witnesses who may have seen the crash or anything else related to it this weekend will come forward and share information that leads to an arrest. Police said it is very important to find this suspect.

“As you know, we’re playing catch-up. Thirteen years at not meeting industry standards is kind of difficult to catch up on, but by ‘28 we’ll be fully caught up, and then we’ll go on our five-year cycle," he said. "We are trimming trees; as we stand here today, we have about 50 or 60 crews out there."

In the end, interim City Manager Jesús Garza decided he knew best. No need for that pesky national search the public had been promised. No community forums or opportunities for public feedback. Instead, Garza skipped to the end on Friday and named Gail McCant as the next director of the Office of Police Oversight, a pivotal agency that receives citizen complaints and provides feedback on the practices of the Austin Police Department. McCant has been serving as the office's interim director for less than four months.
