They are right about one thing. There are conspiracies. They are just not the ones they think.

GHG emitters without any alternatives, mainly, oil and gas companies are starting rumors so they stay in business. Even airlines have a pivot and could build HSR integrated with their flight networks, saving air travel for crossing oceans and continents. Ethanol corn farmers could grow food. Even coal miners could reasonably transition into mining metals.

Oil and gas...well I don't have any ideas. Sorry, but the entire industry needs to shrink an order of magnitude or two.

Suggestion that is counter intuitive. Use their ads against them. If you see a fossil fuel or other large GHG culprit, click on it. It helps the publisher and costs the advertiser money. An ad view is worth pennies, an ad click is worth an order of magnitude or two more.

ETA: Spend a little bit at the destination. Maybe scroll the main page or click on something. It takes seconds.

ETA: This applies to any website or mobile app with ads.

PSA. All hands on deck! Do at least 2 of the following:

  1. Individual action - reduce your emissions
  2. Social action - rally support, persuade others to act
  3. Political action - vote, run, call, protest, all levels
  4. Financial support - self explanatory

No, you really don't. You may hate how the current economy functions, which is fair. Any system where people barter, use currency, or even a pure centrally planned communist system is an economy.

I.e. unless you live off the land, the economy is how you keep food in the table.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Economies are more than just stock markets.

With how fragile our supply, manufacturing, and transportation systems, economic crash would very well lead to many deaths

People largely don't object to climate measures in general.

What we CAN do:

  1. Electric HSR for most long distance travel
  2. Walkable and bikeable cities with great public transit
  3. More local agriculture
  4. Nuclear powered cargo ships
  5. Plastics largely replaced with metal, glass, paper, and wood

What we CAN'T do YET:

  1. Non fossil fuel aircraft
  2. Eliminate all plastics
  3. Eliminate all fossil fuel powered construction vehicles

Another American. Those are small SUVs. Compare those to a Suburban, Tahoe or the like.

Yank here. I use canyonero or monster truck depending on the type of vehicle.

I bet some people here would drive literal tanks if they could.

More like disinformation.

What's to achieve by saying we've blown it - that people spark a revolution, or give up trying ? Some of us have been trying for decades, others have been denying for decades, doubt either set gives up.

I completely agree. In my case, I trusted that it would be dealt with like leaded gasoline, the ozone layer, etc. Then the late 2010s happened and Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro, and other climate denying fascista/uthoritarians in mass gained power and the things warned about started happening.

I do what I can, and try to convince others to do what they can. Individual actions add up, but at least in the US we need a major infrastructure, culture, and urban design overhaul. That requires persuading people.

I've commented a lot on this. We need to stop calling Tories and GOP conservative. I'm not in the U.K., but the GOP seems rather fascist and corrupt.
