So I thought that you should be able to take https://programming.dev/post/50678, paste it into the search box for lemmy.world, and get the local version of that post. But that doesn't work for your particular post

However, another programming.dev post does work

I don't know what the difference is.

FWIW I subscribed via my local instance after finding some posts while using the Lemmy search function.

I found this thread which says you can use the search bar to pull up a permalink in your local instance. Seems to work for me, though I'm with you that something more seamless would be nice.

Edit: this is only on the web UI. I haven't figured out how to do this in Jerboa.
