I always redo it lol, which is kind of a waste but I enjoy it.

Maybe a related question is what I wish I could do if I had the time (which I will do eventually. Some I plan to do very soon):

  • self host wireguard instead of using tailscale
  • self host a ACME-like setup for self signed certificates for TLS and HTTPS
  • self host encrypted git server for private stuff
  • setup a file watcher on clients to sync my notes on-save automatically using rsync (yes I know I can use syncthing. Don't wanna!)

@ticoombs@[email protected] any thoughts on this? I am guessing this is more likely lemmy.ml's problem rather than ours, but figured it is worth bringing attention to you first.

When I posted from my account on lemmy.ml I had no issues. There are posts to other communities also that don't seem to make it.

I fear that lemmy's federation is getting stuck somewhere when you post to big instances. Maybe the instance admins can help debug this and look at logs.

I hate defederation for things like this. This should be a user's choice, not imposed by the instance itself. I hate how the fediverse forces the moderation choices on you.

I dont care that instagram uses activityPub. As long as I can use activityPub myself, thats enough for me. Most people will always stick with big social media, and I would rather be able to interact with them vs. not

With portage updating packages periodically, I am sure I will be hitting the 15% CPU threshold easily 😁😁

The process was actually pretty easy. Granted, I did not yet mess with the kernel or the boot process yet.

I'm honestly surprised how easily doable the install process was. I just created a gentoo install chroot, then replaced all the directories from the main root with ones from the gentoo chroot.

I'd gladly build lemmy from source myself. I suppose it is in the spirit of gentoo!

I did not like the concept of dwm. Is it good in practice? Changing code and recompiling? I suppose it goes with the spirit of gentoo.

Obama is known for his public speaking skills. What he says does not necessarily match his actions.

Raising awareness is the second step towards solving a problem. Silencing or ignoring it is counter productive.

It may be depressing for you, but for others it is a life or death situation. Would you want them to ignore your suffering if tables were turned? And let you suffer in silence?

That kinda uhh... Makes it worse? They have been letting migrants die every month for years? That does not make it okay at all, neither ignoreable. It makes it way worse.

Yeah it's definitely privileged. When the news doesn't effect you and is just a matter of screen entertainment, then it is absolutely privileged.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

And that's exactly what were speaking against.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

That's entirely the point. That shouldn't be the case.

The best solution imo is to create your own overlay / ebuild repository (it's very easy), then modify the ebuild of way bar to install the new version.

99% of the time, you will only need to change the version on one or two lines and that's it. Emerge the new ebuild, and test the changes. Make sure all works. Modify the ebuild as necessary if you find more things are needed, but as I said, most of the time it isn't.

You're basically done here, but you'd be encouraged to contribute this back to the gentoo repository.
