I've feel a deep resentment when asked to work on anything Windows related!

Attention lemmy.perthchat.org Users!

We're regretfully going to be shutting down this Lemmy service in the next week. It's been fun, but I don't have time to keep up with it lately and want to focus my fediverse hosting/contributions a bit and stick to Matrix.

Sorry and thanks for choosing Perthchat.org!

Because it's "their" platform.

Good, polluters should be held accountable.

Stop spreading ads around the fediverse please.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It's clearly an ad, try opening your eyes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Just delete this ad then, except you won't. -.-

It's not a shit post though, it's not even funny. You might be getting paid off by kfc to shove ads in our face. SHAME!

The pay wall? A great way to get rid of bots. Letting the maga people back in? That sounds rather inclusive! Rate-limiting the free users, well you're probably on that platform too much anyway. Re-branding it to be "X", also seems fine tbh...

People love being told what to get angry over it seems, I doubt most of the people criticising him would have come up with these opinions on their own. They seem to just be parroting each other, while enjoying a shared communal outrage.

July 10th 12:45PM - We we're alerted to a new XSS vulnerability: https://sh.itjust.works/post/923025

July 10th 12:47PM - We decide to shut down lemmy.perthchat.org immediately and wait for a patch, we made an announcement to our users on Matrix: https://matrix.to/#/!zqxQRlJmlkwGhNnGBM:perthchat.org/$jKSuVTMj00MAkTTYyBMBe6wnITa0db7aS3pC2W4MbdQ?via=matrix.org&via=perthchat.org&via=t2bot.io

Today we looked into this further and it turns out we were not effected by this recent security bug. This was due to me having no time to upgrade the service to the vulnerable version! xD

pcadmin@lemmy:~$ sudo docker exec -it lemmy_postgres_1 /bin/bash

The latest 0.18.2 update has now been applied to this service and we're open for business again. Thanks for choosing Perthchat.org!

Today Perthchat.org is launching a fundraising effort to help fund the Matrix and Lemmy services we run.

This Lemmy does have a backup now... finally. Registration is still broken but I swear I'm working on it! xD

Finally got around to configuring an email relay for this service. You can now connect an email address to your account for recovery purposes.

Note that there's actually no official "other way" of resetting your password, if you don't have an email on your account we unfortunately can't reset it for you due to technical limitations.

Hello!

The time has come and we're moving the lemmy service to our own hosting! Expect outages in the next 24 hours.

Big thanks to the lemmy devs for hosting this service for the first year! It made it a lot easier for us to get started.

Things finally went boom in a big way, we're attempting to do an emergency recovery of the service to a new location.

Sorry for the extended outage, the service should be back up within 6 hours. (hopefully)

Routine maintenance at the data-centre we're currently hosted at has gone not so smoothly. :S

We are currently trying to restore the service and appreciate your patience and understanding! 😅

Today we're launching the Perthchat Lemmy instance, an exciting expansion of our service. Lemmy allows you to host your own link aggregator / discussion board, similar to Reddit.

Thanks for joining us!
