Lol, this one went over my head. What's the story here?
Wow this is really neat, I didn't realize sun spots occur in bands like this. I always assumed they occur across the whole surface
Lol, this one is great
If you are buying a coin that's already on the market as a fully attributed coin then yeah you don't want to clean it. I buy coins that are "fresh" out of the ground so they're literally caked with mud. They look like this so they require cleaning. Properly cleaning 2000 yr old coins is a months long process involving microscope and very deliberate & precise application of effort. For some reason I find it very relaxing, almost like a form of meditation. It's a hobby that I'd love to share the results and talk about with others.
Shameless plug: You can see some of my Before/After pictures over at [email protected] :-)
Yeah, I like tech too but also enjoy cleaning ancient coins. It'll be nice if someone else found my community and it would pick up. I'm trying to post ever so often so anyone that stumbles on it will know I'm still around
I live in 10a and it was inside... I suspect my son poured something in it's pot :-/
Some of those coins led me down a rabbit hole that helped me attribute a coin I was cleaning :-) It's a Carinus PRINCIPI IVVENTVT coin which is a new emporor & reverse for my collection. It's in VF shape, hard center stamp which is great cuz I clean so few in this good of condition.
Wow I really like thos coin, it's soo clean! I really like that the design on the reverse is cut out of a square like they used a punch. I love coins with mythology related figures on them like creatures and gods. It makes the time in history when those religions were relevant seem more real.
Pegging Celsius to freezing/boiling point of water makes it VERY easy to calibrate thermometers. That's a huge advantage that makes it so anyone with a freezer and stove have a great reference point for calibration.
I had one of these for a few years, it grew happily in my window and one day it just up and died. Went from happy and bushy to dead within a few days. :-(
Wow this reply sent me down quite the rabbit hole lol Its a little frustrating that there aren't as many great online resources for attributing Greek coinage. I think I like them more, so much variety and character. Roman coins are so numerous though and there is such a rich body of history... you can learn so much about the roman coins. Greek coins don't come with whole articles telling you about them like Roman coins... but there are much cooler depictions of gods and creatures on Greek coins.
Thank you for the information :-D
Same, every post
Including this one lol
