This is all over the place.

If you click the link in this post it takes you to a mastodon comment from the official Proton account stating exactly the same beliefs as this board member. If that isn’t in the name of Proton what is?

People ARE looking at the details of this. If this company starts cozying up to an alt-right “dictator for a day” government then when/where does this stop? There’s nuance beyond just Proton and Andy said something scandalous here. It’s layers of political issues that spell a privacy focused company having an inability to actually keep the government out of my shit.

Culture war would be if they took a stance on DEI. This is political and has actual consequences.

Why are you trying to defend a fucking corporation? When has a company ever not become evil as they look to grow? It’s just the nature of the beast. The people here, and the OP specifically, have called out Proton is over for them. They’re not saying you should do the same. Just that they’re going to take a step back and others expressing they’ll join.

I was thinking the same thing. In all the threads about it. It just seemed oddly suspicious and not typical of what the digital privacy community has typically believed… I mean, I’m also not going to homogenize a community like that though and Proton has been a mainstay.

I love how you’re claiming misinformation while posting misinformation. It’s not the CEO, it’s a board member. That said, the company also officially posted these ideas on their Bluesky account.

This isn’t a “CEO” expressing a belief, it’s the board, and now the official company line.

I’m not disagreeing with their post particularly on corporate dems, but this is a company and not a persons sole belief.

Also, if dems are the party of big business then why are all these big businesses donating to Trump? Does that just mean republicans are the party of even bigger business?

Classic Clovis CA. If anyone has ever been in the area, or talks to someone from there you’d understand what I mean. It’s a city that gets so offended when you say “oh you’re from Fresno” because it’s a suburb.

First off, we know where he was radicalized now, Canada. 😤

Second, my favorite part about living in the future is sentences like “he recorded his loyalty to ISIS on his Meta Smart Glasses while on his way to kill people.”

If this timeline isn’t dank I don’t know what is.

They already have. This is a reworking of our current rules. It’s basically goes like this: In California insurance must now provide some insurance in fire prone areas. In exchange California will allow them to use computer models to identify high risk customers and charge them differently. As well, California is promising to reworking our insurance coverage system for insurers. Basically saying in the event of a bad natural disaster California will help provide financial aid.

Lastly the system is encouraging companies to come back by giving in to some of the insurance companies demands. While it sucks, people like me (and there’s a heavy majority of Californians like me) will get lower rates because we live in cities with low wildfire and low flood potential. People in the mountains and along the coast and rural areas will be fucked, but they also wanted relaxed regulation like this.

It’s also substantially better than lots of southern states like Florida which has basically no insurance companies left and those that stay have people paying 12 grand a year for coverage. If I’m recalling correctly the average Californian pays like $1200. We’re far better off, so hopefully this helps a bit and doesn’t completely screw us. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I drive a Ram 2500 with the factory LED reflectors… so same feeling.

What I don’t get is why with newer LED lights they don’t have them dim down to a minimum level as the car slows down and stops. No reason to have the same brightness for driving at 80mph as driving at 10 or 25mph.

I don’t disagree with some of your points, but I also don’t believe that Reddit really ever said it was a free speech platform. Twitter has for sure (because of Elon), but Reddit has really been a “front page of the internet” believer. They felt more like an aggregator and newspaper. Which definitely has a lot of censoring and opinion blocking in the world of print too. I mean, remember when they got rid of jailbait or space dicks, was that a speech problem? Some felt it was, but it was definitely something we all realized was wrong and that a private company tries to protect its “brand.” Obviously being on Lemmy and leaving after the API change means I didn’t agree with them and I found another place that aligned more with my values.

You holding that sign up though is legal, however only on public property, and only if you’re taking up less than half of the sidewalk and not in the path of traffic. You also cannot use an amplified device (unless you’ve filled out the permit) and your sign cannot be on any wood or metal sticks. If you step onto private property you can be asked to leave or removed. That last one is also something that just like a website isn’t restricting your right to free speech, just that a specific building/business/owner doesn’t want to be in support of it.

In the end, why are we all still talking about Reddit. This site definitely has users that love going back to their crazy ex to fuck and then realizing it’s still crazy like as if it would change.

Definitely agree with you on that.

If we’re talking about the Unpopular opinion subreddit (what the image is from). They also had President, presidency, Trump, and spez. They’re just big things that end up with a lot of garbage. A sub about unpopular opinions filled with the same “Donald Trump bad” becomes boring and annoying.

If we’re talking about the Lemmy Shitpost community then they specifically call out no derogatory language towards anyone’s Race, gender, or religion. Is that trampling your civil liberties?

Your rights as a person and citizen don’t magically extend everywhere. Otherwise you turn into a sovereign citizen. This weird obsession on Lemmy with this idea you should be able to say whatever you want online anywhere is fucking stupid and weird. A website is like another business or home (or even a newspaper… which at times has also pulled ideas they don’t agree with). You’re showing up to it. If you don’t like the rules in one place, go to another (or read a different paper). Or make your own.

Also, I love the irony of me making an unpopular opinion comment on a post about unpopular opinion.

Is this really so bad? I mean.. I get it. When you’re trying to moderate something with thousands of posts, and a ton start coming in that are low effort/bot posts saying things like “unpopular opinion: I support Luigi” or “unpopular opinion: I am glad Biden won’t be president” it makes sense. Those are just such constant topics with such a wide range of ideals. Whereas an unpopular opinion they might want to spur conversation would be “unpopular opinion: I don’t mind my socks being damp or wet” otherwise it’s just constant shitposts.

Plus, Reddit isn’t the (US) government. Your expectation of free speech should be null.
