Yes this is not production ready, and to be clear that's essentially the mobile app deployed as a web app. So the mobile/desktop apps are definitely not going away, but it means that any new mobile version we create, we can deploy it for the web too (provided this PoC works out well and it looks like it does). This is convenient for people who cannot install apps, for example on lock down devices, or simply for those who don't want to install any app. Then it runs with only the permissions of the browser.

Yes it's somehow very difficult to import from OneNote since Microsoft uses a weird binary format for it. There's no JavaScript lib but Pedro has been doing a great work converting a Rust one to WASM, which we can then use from the desktop app.

For the fourth year, Joplin has been selected as a Google Summer of Code mentor organisation! We look forward to start working with the contributors on some great new projects.

The changelog is actually there now: https://joplinapp.org/help/about/changelog/android

But also it seems our script to update it is not working so 2.13.7 doesn't show up.

And looks like F-Droid started pulling the pre-releases too which means they are ahead of the official releases. This is mostly fine though since the pre-releases are usually quite stable.

This is actually working but you need to swipe veeery slowly for it to work. We'd like to fix this and make it work with regular or fast swipes too.

Indeed, a lot of it is tied to AWS infrastructure to receive emails, queue them, save them to S3, etc. so it's not something we could release any other way. But as Graphito mentioned that plugin can be an alternative. If you use Thunderbird, there's also a pretty good plugin that can convert the current email to a note - https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/joplin-export/?src=search

Unfortunately I don't know much about Linux desktop in general, so I wouldn't know what to advise in terms of fonts, but hopefully someone else can chip in. You might want to ask in Linux-specific forums since it's probably not specific to Joplin

Are those icons emojis or image files? (both are supported) If they are emoji it means FlatPack or your operating system is missing a font that would include these emojis. We are not picking a particular font, just default, and that works in other operating systems.

For the white menus there's not much to do either as this is handled by the system. If you chose a dark theme at the system level it should show this in dark.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm compiling the info from here and elsewhere and will take it into account when creating the plugin API

I'm having a look again at this feature:

https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/issues/5389

The goal is to allow plugins to manage and render the note list. For example, we could imagine a plugin that renders thumbnails of the notes, or one that display the notes in a tabular format.

Those are just examples but I was wondering, if you are a plugin developer or user, what list-based plugin would you like to see or develop?

You can already see some ideas in the GitHub issue under "Example 1" and "Example 2"

It would be very useful to gather as much feedback a possible, so that we can get the implementation right from the start. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome!

As far as I know, yes, it's reliable and a lot of people are using it. Often they use the open source alternative MinIO which is compatible.

Only issue I would say is in terms of maintenance because unlike other sync targets, which I can usually fix, this one I have no clue about and any fix needs to come from other contributors who may or may not be around.

I've added a task for it here: https://github.com/laurent22/joplin/issues/8490 Not sure why we've never implemented this since it should be relatively easy

There are few existing OCR solutions, but not sure which one is best. This one has been around for a while and I believe works well but you need some extra setup and have to follow a specific workflow:

https://discourse.joplinapp.org/t/file-uploader-and-ocr/719

Otherwise have a look at the various options on the forum:

Encryption was recently upgrade to use AES-256 so any app you upgrade will start using this. The problem is that apps you do not upgrade will see these encrypted notes, and will not know how to decrypt them. That will result in encryption-related errors such as a Unknown decryption method.

  • First, there is no risk for your data. It cannot currently decrypted but it still there and it is not corrupted

  • To ensure you can decrypt those notes, make sure you update all your apps. If you did so, and it still doesn't work double-check your version number. It should be:

    • Desktop: 2.11.11
    • Android: 2.11.1
    • iOS: 12.11.5
    • CLI: 2.11.1
  • All the official releases are up-to-date however some non-official channels have not updated their releases. In that case, contact the developer for that channel, or directly install our official release.

  • Once you start the upgraded version there may be some items that need to be manually processed for decryption. To do so, in the desktop app, go to Help => Sync status and click on "Retry all". In the mobile app, go to to the configuration screen, scroll down to the "Sync status" button, then press "Retry all".

Any question, feel free to ask here!

Quickly find notes, folders, and tags in a snap. Say goodbye to endless scrolling and hello to efficient note navigation! Try it today and supercharge your workflow.

Like many other subs (apparently over 5000) /r/joplinapp is going dark for the duration of the blackout.

The HN thread about it (or one of them): https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36283249

One of the top comment puts it nicely:

The cheek of Reddits management is incredible. They've taken hundreds of millions in VC money hired an army of developers and yet delivered nothing to improve the user experience. All we seem to have have got out of is new reddit, a terrible, slow facebook like version of the site and an absolutely terrible mobile app. Where the hell did the money go? They use the time, labour, creativity, stories, humour, talent, wisdom, advice, skills of their users to try and make themselves billionaires whilst delivering a hopeless piece of tech in return, thats only been made useable by others people writing software to make the site bearable, Reddit Enhancement suite, Apollo, RIF. And yet here they are ready to make it rubbish again to get their filthy lucre. The more I think about it the more infuriated I get.
