people have success

Which people? Probably technically-minded, and over-determined people, yes. But do we want only such people have access to Haveno? Absolutely not. People who are only able to burn TailsOS onto a USB should also be able to hop-onto using Haveno and contribute to Monero"s distributed liquidity.

you literally can

No I literally cannot! (maybe). AppImage model of running a program is exactly the same as running an exe file. Download, allow executable, and run. Most newcomers easily get disheartened when they read that they need to unzip a deb file or something.

AppImage is absolutely necessary for users of TailsOS and Qubes-Whonix.

Transact with it. Don’t hoard it

I do hoard it tho.

Full membership proofs will solve the issues, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. It can't arrive soon enough (provided that the maths and the code implementation are sound and secure, of course).

tails to keep electrum pre installed only by default.

I still can't comprehend the TailsOS developers for this decision. They are going all the way about hiding the trails of internet packages that are sent/received to the Tails operating system. But they are literally operating on the "clearnet" when it comes to the trails of internet money bits.

I think the rift between haveno devs and the haveno-reto devs is causing some project management issues. One such example that I get direct exposure is around adding a flatpak and AppImage packaging for Haveno(-Reto) and another is around how (or should?) should the users be able to switch between mainnet providers.

For the example of the first one read down from this message: https://github.com/haveno-dex/haveno/issues/270#issuecomment-2294807880

And for the example of the second one, read down this issue: https://github.com/haveno-dex/haveno/issues/931

There is a friction in trying to coordinate and contribute to the developers working on different (albeit quite similar) repos (in the case of the original Haveno repo and the -Reto repo). This friction in comms and contribution is causing delays in introducing software distribution packages such as AppImage and Flatpaks, which hinders (especially for TailsOS and Qubes-Whonix users) the onboarding of the new users, and decentralizing Monero's liquidity.

What's your point?

Last week's Skepticism thread was here: https://monero.town/post/3884733

I am indeed salty about INVOLUNTARY taxation.

I am not in the business of rescuing the world.

Aight. Good for you.

first you are wrong.

wrong about what?

Excluding smartphone slaves would be a big plus.

Depending on your goal. If your goal is to have an exclusive club of monero users, yeah, be my guest. But if you want to reach some critical mass with your monero-related discussion community, some level of ease of access to the discussion medium helps.

If this place going to be a larger Town hall (and eventually supercede the one on the user-hostile reddit servers) we need traditions that foster discussion in here.

Look, I also hate reddit, and it would be better if the Monero subreddit there was stale and inconsequential (see: https://monero.town/post/3725287 ), but the truth is its reverse: the Town is a near-ghost Town; which is a shame! Lemmy has a lot of potential for replacing reddit for long form written, indexed, searchable and structured (all as opposed to irc/matrix discussions) discussion medium. But we need to get people have sticking, lasting reasons to post here.

In order to make posters in here get into the habit, here are my suggestions:

  1. Adopt "skepticism sundays," threads from /r/Monero. The Town should be the place to air out skeptic discussions on monero, we shouldn't need to br put up with reddit's automated filtering of posts and millionth captchas, just to post there.

  2. Adopt "weekly discussion" threads from /r/Monero. Again, the /c/monero should foster posters to post more frequently in here, with threads like this.

We hate reddit. Reddit is simply unusable. New monero community members are unable to get their opinions heard and take part in the convo. It is up to us to have a haalthier discourse environment in the community.

A few days ago I created a reddit account just for "taking part in the discussion." However, here are the absolutely frustrating experiences I had:

  1. You can create an account if you give reddit your email, but you CANNOT login via reddit's onion URL. Reddit will keep having "we had a problem," and "an error with the server occurred", after you have solved your 5th captcha with a screenful of bicycles to click on. No way to login anonymously.

  2. You will have to login to your account via the clearnet URL of reddit. Damn.. But OK, everything for " contributing to the community, we are a diverse one, after all right? Make your voice heard". Alright. I login on clearnet. Reddit still gives me a red banner with some error message, like a sack of shit splashing on my desk, but lets me in this time. Good, finally "be a part of the conversation!". Start my first thread announcing my Turkish translation of monero.garden (see MoneroBahce.com). Hit send. Instantly reddit filters my post. My post and voice are not visible whatsoever.

Seriously, why are we taking reddit seriously as a discussion platform; and moreover, why are we making it the centrepiece of written, long-form Monero discussion? Why is that place have such a large role in taking a pulse of the Monero users?

Should we start a bounty? Current .deb requires the user to have sudo privileges and installs into root file directory. The first one is cumbersome for TailsOS users and the second one is cumbersome for QubesOS users.

An AppImage, in contrast, is a self-contained packaging for linux programs, that doesn't require sudo privs nor installation to root file dir. The user can simply double click on the AppImage and it will get Haveno working instantly.

Currently, Haveno/-Reto doesn't have an AppImage release. How do we get one? I am not a programmer, so I can't cook one for them. So, would opening a bounty on bounties.monero.social be helpful?

Downloaded the release 6.0.0-beta1 pre-release version of AppImage to my Qubes-Whonix. Then, created an encrypted archive (18 MB) of my android simplex using simplex app, and got my download link for migration to the desktop app. On the desktop appimage, I pasted this link, and it has been "DOWNLOADING LINK DETAILS" for 15 minutes now. Is this feature working yet, or am I waiting in vain?
