Nikki de Jager (who was supposed to be the spokesperson) said on TV that it didn't feel right to hand out points. The Dutch broadcaster then told the EBU to just figure it out themselves.
Käärijä (Finland) also stepped down but got replaced, and Alessandra (Norway) already stepped down earlier because of Isreal.

Highlights from the Dutch broadcast (paraphrased):

  • "The EBU reminded us that we're contractually obligated to do this broadcast."
  • "Instead of the Netherlands we skip to Isreal, good thing they are completely uncontroversial."
  • "Everyone makes mistakes, the EBU also knows a lot about that."

I think it's very typical how even though Nemo's song is about being non-binary, there's tv-presenters are talking about "him" and "that boy"

Extra fun is how many sources originally talked about a physical confrontation

From what I heard Joost was getting a bunch of political questions right before that without the host ever saying "you don't have to answer that", and that's where his reaction came from

Edit: source on Dutch Twitter

Grappig hoe Baudet ooit begon als het 'redelijke' alternatief op Wilders en het inmiddels omgedraaid is

Maybe they're Dutch, there it's only done for words that end in a vowel. Probably not though.
