If you as a content creator have a choice between a platform with 3 billion people (US and India included), like Shorts and Instagram Reels, and one without (TikTok), where would you post?

This is a clear disadvantage given to tiktok only to protect its own companies cause if US actually cared about data and mental health, homegrown Tech companies would also face repercussions.

LETS NOT FORGET, China can VERY EASILY buy most of the data it needs from the open market which many US companies, including Big Tech contribute to.

This has done nothing for citizens. Only protected innovation less US companies.

Good riddance? Not really cause US still has clones of tiktok present like reels and shorts.

Nothing will change. Data will still be collected. China can easily buy data from the open market. Mental health will still be affected.

In fact, due to lack of competition, things will only get worse.

US and India are 2 moronic countries

GPS works like 5% of the time for me. Seriously. There is a reason both Apple and Google made these solutions.

GPS, especially in some countries, straight up refuses to work.

I know I said it is half the location story but that is for others. For me, UNLP is 95% of the location service and I have no choice but to go back to google services just cause of this.

Although GPS or hardware based location does work on LineageOS, it seems there is no easy way to get software based Network Location officially on LineageOS due to UnifiedNLP getting deprecated and merged to GMS Core. (Also see this post)

After discussing with community and my own research, there are 2 ways to get it on LineageOS-

  1. Either get LineageOS for MicroG. Problem with that being it is not official.
  2. Or get some older version of UnifiedNLP with MinMicroG (also an older version) or some other 3rd party installer.

Both of these are complicated and risky (as flashing can brick a phone) processes for something that is software based and is only half part of location services as GPS still works, meaning imo, you aren't getting your effort's worth. Especially noobs.

This post is an upto date guide for future users (as not many might get difference between GPS and Network Location) while also inviting suggestions for older users on how they dealt with the problem.

Hi I made a Lemmy account specifically to save posts for future view.

To support the OPs, I opted to like instead of saving them as doing both is not ideal as I don't like to save every post, only some important ones.

But to my surprise, there is no way of viewing posts you liked/upvoted. Only saved posts appear in your profile.

This is in stark contrast to Reddit and even Mastodon which show both. I wonder if such a feature is in the pipeline or some way which exists to view them.

The best alternative is to just have lists support in Saved Posts like Instagram or Pinterest has.

Can any third party Lemmy clients do this? To be clear- I'd like to view posts I upvoted retrospectively and not from now on or something.

This is not a new request. I made this post to ask for things other requesters have not mentioned such as third party clients and comparision to Mastodon and Pinterest.

The usecase is that you want to support the OP's posts while also saving them for the future. Pressing both buttons for all the posts that you like is not intuitive.

Some users have 2 priorities of saved messages as neither Lemmy nor Reddit support lists in Saved Posts which something like Instagram has.

One priority is just to have a history of posts that amused you. You upvote them. (memes fit this) And other is actually saving them for future reference. (Articles, Opinions, etc.)

It is a nightmare trying to find some critical information but first sifting through all the memes and shitposts. So this feature is highly needed to make Lemmy atleast somewhat useful for me.

I thought this meant the writer is forgoing Amazon as a service completely.

Cause that would be something worth reading. Not these first world problems ffs

So by that you mean that is some hugeass soldier riding his humongous horse.

One of their steps scaling an entire country or something?

That's easy.

You are privacy conscious in those unnecessarily rich parties you got invited to by mistake.

You are poor for your homies and family.

Except a country doesnt need anything like that. What is the US afraid of? That its people will suddenly move to Zimbabwe and be happy?

If there was a genuine benefit to having different standards than rest of the world, then just like wars, more countries would be having them

US has had millions, if not billions of dollars of losses due to this madness and has itself tried switching to metric system.

The fact the imperial system itself is now based on the metric system tells you enough

Windows has its ups.

The only problem people should have with it is that it's on 70% of ALL desktops which is about half a billion too many.

A fair competition should be there. Linux, Mac and Windows should have around 33% market share in an ideal world.

You may count whatever Google is doing or Samsung/Huawei can do as separate in a dream world.

A standard which is a "newer" version of an old standard, when a new objectively better standard already exists to replace it.

You tell me.

just like Apple, limited models and limited parts. It will probably take till 2030 or something before it comes even close to being available "globally".

The phones are designed to be be hard to repair. So it is obvious most people won't be doing this themselves. Which was the dream.

You should spread awareness on why he is a jerk instead of just trying to supress his existence as a whole.

That will help people to get the complete picture instead of just "oh dont use this picture". That's how information works.

Believe it or not, there are still many people who dont know, thus don't care about him or his thoughts. And you writing something instead of all this would have helped your cause more.
