They should just federate, they don't need to use Lemmy to have it viewable from Lemmy/Kbin

Idk why you are getting down voted so much, the entitlement of the Internet to expect someone to host servers and write code for their entertainment for free is crazy.

Last I checked (when I deleted my Facebook and wanted to have an educated why are you leaving block, granted this was a long time ago) Facebook made roughly $20/year selling my data. I would rather have multiple different models personally. Let me pay you to not have ads and not sell my data, but have free tiers where you let them sell your data and show you ads for the people that refuse to pay for anything. This gives everyone what they want.

Yeah i am totally fine with being showed ads or paying for an ad free option. I got YouTube red when it came out and never looked back. Plus they gave us Cobra Kai, which was amazing. I do wish they also included a "we won't sell your data" option in that premium though

I feel like any software change reddit has made is the last decade just made it a worse experience. It succeeded despite their changes, not because of them imo.

I think this can be solved by allowing linking of accounts. If I have accounts on multiple servers that sync, then you have a failsafe if one goes down. Or you could just send host your own instance and own your own data.
